Are Safety Crafts Really That Safe?

The damage / magic damage reduction / defense bonus does not provide very much safety / Reason to use. I do like the magic damage PERCENT reduction on the shield ( but it is small, when considering that it is the only item providing this )

I would like to see safety items provide an actual percent damage reduction, to make them a generally usable option. A range of 5-10 Percent damage reduction on each item type would be ideal.

Five to Ten percent damage reduction on say, boots, gloves, belt, and armor, would give you a 20-40% Total. Similarly, Rings, Amulet, and Shield, could provide five to ten percent magic damage reduction each for a 20-40% Total.

Another option would be for each item type to have a chance to roll either 5-10% Magic or 5-10% Physical percent damage reduction

In any case, it is unlikely anyone will use all of those in slot due to the lack of other stats. But, a stat change like this would make for very useful options.

Safety weapon should also provide a larger defense bonus. When considering 2 handed or dual wield spear use, 5-10% bonus to defense is small given the lack of a shield. a 20-40% bonus would be more functional.

Along those lines, I would make sense to see safety class weapon be changed from spear ( including jav ) to 2-handed weapons ( all types ) and missile weapons.

All of the “crafting” done in the horadric cube should be extremely buffed. I made a few caster belts :man_shrugging: It was nifty to have faster cast rate on a belt… but… meh. When looking at the possible rolls on all 3 other types… I do not even consider bothering with such silliness.

Biggest problem with crafting and why it’s hardly used outside of true min/max/pvp is simply lack of inventory space or character space to stock up on the materials you need. No one wants to craft a few items at a time, they want to craft dozens at a time. Jewlery is OK since it takes up the least amount of space, but for other craftings like gloves, belts, boots, etc, this is the reason no one bothers unless they really need it for some niche use. Give more character slots and/or inventory space, and suddenly people can actually stock up to do a good amount of crafting on actual items.

Coooley did a video on a build where the MDR gear is really useful when used on an energy shield sorceress.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, energy shield takes 200% more dmg from your mana pool than your health pool would have taken, but it has a synergy with telekinesis where for each skill point it reduces the redirected dmg by 6%.

At max telekinesis level you can reduce the 200% to 75% dmg and then almost eliminate the rest of the dmg taken by wearing items with magic damage reduction in hard numbers rather than percentage numbers.

If you’re interested in watching it, search youtube for immortal sorceress. It’s the next build on my list, it looks like a lot of fun.

His original vid was made like a year ago and used firewall (for shytes and giggles mostly) but he’s recently updated to show a nova build too.

There are far better options than safety gear…

Safety rings are the only viable pieces and that’s only if you are aiming for 200 FCR…

I do that. :grinning: i love crafting. And i am not a factory.

But safety stuff i have never crafted any good. Most of the time i go for blood or caster items.

Saftey shield is the games only source of magic resistance % as small as it may be.

thats the little details i love in this game.

most of the new players probably don’t even know that you can do SO MUCH with the items and the Horadrim cube.
They have no idea of the possibilities but are constantly complaining instead of “working” on their items.

Why would you craft a caster belt? Arachnid Mesh is always better

Crafted gloves are the go to. All else… not really interested. Rerolling is different, but crafting seems to be only reasonably for gloves. + skills, crushing blow, lots of different mods - win.

I still use laying of hands on my barb though

Hmm I always wanted to try and roll a 10% block 10%FCR +2 Ammy for sorc, but I’m not even sure if they can roll that way. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any.

Maybe… because I have not found one in D2R. The “best-in-slot” items do not exist in my game

True, tiny amounts of damage reduce is useful for an ES sorc. Though, I think that safety recipe should be useful to all classes. Providing percentage reduction, especially percent magic damage reduction, that otherwise has no resistance, would make this set of crafts very useful.

Superbly rolled crafted blood boots work very well too, especially if you just aren’t getting lucky enough to find the ones you’re looking for to go with your intended build. It’a amazing just how much damage you gain with crushing blow even reduced for ranged attacks. It made doing early farms of Griswold on Hell far more tolerable than without CB.

Sure it is. But i dont have that unique. So i can craft a good belt. :grinning:
High lvl uniques are sometimes better jes but thats problems from sc players who got everything anyways.
Hc players sometimes… “Lose” theyr items.
Less stash problems :wink: more space.
Just a better mode…
