Are loot filters safe?

That ship has already sailed. They said they are excited to see mods that use in-game data that’s already observable. So long as a mod does not inject code. You are certainly entitled to stand against this and disagree with the position, but it is Blizzard’s position. They have yet to retract it.

Almost any mod that somebody would want to use can be argued as “Well that gives them an advantage”. Be that as it may, Blizzard has already publicly said they welcome mods that do not inject code.

loot filter isn’t cheating and it’s not “”““automated scripting””" But okay then. It’s not the same thing.

Im sure we are missing context. They probably mean single player, offline.

No they aren’t meaning single player. They would have said single player if it was only single player.

Also you still never responded to the video I posted about the bilzzard community dev from korea mentioning that it was okay. But I guess we can just skip that part aye?

Well we know that he did not mean single player offline because if he meant single player offline, he wouldn’t have said that injecting code is a problem. No one cares if you inject code into single player offline games. So clearly he is talking about battlenet.

No time to look at it. Do what you want. 50/50 chance of getting banned, thats all. I won’t be using any 3rd party program with D2R.

Well the game has been out for a long time and people constantly use item filters on battle net. There has not been one report of a ban in any of the posts for any offered item filters on nexxusmods. That’s unheard of for something that’s bannable.

This is not to say Blizzard won’t just start doing it one day. I mean they can just go back on their word if they want to. They could also start banning people for using the fast loading screen technique too. They can pretty much ban anyone for anything. I mean they might open themselves up to a false advertising class action, and probably wouldn’t be worth their time to risk it. But they can do what they want. I’m not worried about it. I don’t see why anybody would be either.

you LITERALLY told me I was doing mental gymnastics and to point you to where “its okay” and I showed you a video clip and an image link of what was said and so now you are like “oh I don’t have time to watch that”

Sure Jan…

I thought what I meant was obvious. Take any “large” streamer that wants a loot filter. Why aren’t they using one. I’ve never heard any of them state that they could be using a 3rd-party program to fit their needs but choose not to in the videos I’ve seen them discussing loot filters.
I mean - why wouldn’t they make a guide to loot filters and what options are available. Perhaps I’ve just missed those vids, but I think not.
Surely a lot of their audience would want a guide.

It’s not widely known that Blizzard allows them, and a streamer likely doesn’t want to put a target on his back if Blizzard changes their mind.

Are we still beating this horse? I thought statements like yours were obvious? Until Blizzard releases an official loot filter, any 3rd party modification will be risking a perma ban in online play.

You want a loot filter? Go play something more modern. Game is fine without it.

I can handle implementation and justification for a consumable filter, but not for every item in the game.

What do you think loot filters are doing exactly? A consumable filter is the SAME thing as an item/base filter. It literally does the same thing.

??? you contradict yourself with your statement “I’m okay with a consumable filter”

These filters are just text files that you put in what you want and don’t want filtered. Have you ever used a loot filter in a game before?

That’s not a contradiction lol.

You can be okay with something without necessarily thinking it’s realistic or even desirable.

You need to be more nuanced when you call people out for a contradiction, in this case you’re wrong and for a reader it casts a shadow on all other points you’ve made, valid or otherwise.

What’s the difference between a consumable filter and an item filter then? They do the same thing don’t they? Declutter the screen so you can see and grab only what you want?

So you are okay with certain items being filtered but not garbage waste of space items that are not needed?

if a proper and customizable loot filter is too “hard” to do

they could just add a “display preference” to the current cluter mechanic

runes>uniques>sets>charms>rares>magics>jewels>gems>elite bases>exc bases>norm bases>Frejuvs>rejuvs>HP5>MP5>…

something like that

Why would a ‘customizable loot filter’ be hard to implement?
The loot filter mentioned is already implemented in the game without use of 3rd party tools, it’s a text edit of the language-files. We just need some clarification or official response from Blizzard that this kind of text-file change is allowed on battle.net.

They mentioned in the interview before release that they support modding, but by refusing to clarify if that statement is offline only or if it applies to online as well they are actually hurting the modding community.
If I recall correctly, the reason PlugY wasn’t ported to D2R is that the creator interpreted the statement about them not supporting code injections to apply to offline. And same with d2mods who have banned any discussion of the same.

Or does anyone know the reason why there has been no official clarification on that interview from pcgamesn?

You can edit it on your own if you just edit strings which are name references for items, skill and stuff. You can add colors there too. Its kind of grey area, but since blizzard promote streamers openly using it, i would say its safe to use.

bc a customizable one allows people to screw things up

before anything, i agree that devs shouldnt walk people over by their hands but i dont think they want to create this kind of situation

im not talking about /modname
im talking about an official loot filter

I am sure in can be done in a way that situation where you would hide sonething and didnt know about it would be impossible pretty much. But reason you provided might be valid why they dont want it. But it would be silly reason as they didnt fix selling unique charms to vendors either and that happens to a lot of people.

yeah, thats why i think one with display preference is something more “plausible” for them to do

is it perfect? never
but it would be better than the current system
