Any progress on LOAD TIMES?

@Blizzard

PTR Loads time still seems slow. Running 16 Cores CPU + SSD. Other games are instantaneous. Blizzard needs to improve optimizing assets … something along the lines of keeping Act 1-5 town assets loaded in memory so loading into new game would be instant or even hardware accelerated decompression of game assets and have the option in settings (only important for playthrough) to preload maps adjacent to next level. Example being if you’re in tal rasha tomb, then preload assets in duriel’s lair so you dont go in and wait for screen to load while duriel is killing you.

Memory is cheap. Ask RADgametools for tips. It doesn’t make sense that I have a load time when jumping from Act 5 town to Act 1 town.

I mean… as a developer, is this a production quality characteristic of a game? I don’t think so.

you guys got any secrets to load the game faster?

some people are resorting to hacking the game files and deleting the new graphics, but that’s a dumb solution if you ask me. i’ve been thinking about just upgrading my whole pc.

currently using a 7700k/1080 with minimum graphics, 0/300 cap/target framerates, vsync off, and harrogath load time from menu is 6 seconds. what about you guys?

the only public known way to increase load times is to remove the main decompression step of the game assets entirely. This involved decompressing the game files … ~40GB worth of data onto disk and adding the command line arguments using -direct -txt. Most single players use this for instant load times. Not recommended for online.

Look up “D2R Single Player - Tips to Improve your Load Times” its a reddit post

But again, this shouldn’t be an issue. It should’ve been optimized from day 1.

i need faster loads online though. if i only played single player first of all loads don’t matter, and second, i could just delete the HD graphics

We’ll be back to instant load times in about 10 years, when PCIe Gen 10 is out, and SSD’s are screaming at 3 terabytes/sec, RAM is blazing at 10 petabytes/sec and our processors have 1024 cores, of which a single core is 10X faster than the fastest multicore processor available today.

Honestly, I forget there are load times 99% of the time. D2 of course was quicker than all other games in the genre, but D2R is still quicker than most other games aside from the original D2. I love Grim Dawn, but the long fade in and out load screens are awful.

I have a AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, RTX 2080, and Decent SSD.
