doesn’t that mean that they flood the servers with traffic (DoS) from multiple IPs (D)
who and why would do or would want to do such a thing ?

“Asking for a friend” is a phrase usually used in a humorous way to obscure who wants to know the answer to a suspicious question.

I agree though. It’s a bizarre thing to do.
Someone gets mad enough at Bliz to retaliate over it, and decides to DDOS them. But all a DDOS does is affect the players. It’s not like it damages the servers or has any other deleterious effect on Bliz themselves.

It’s not just Blizzard, FF14 has been suffering severe ddosing for weeks too. I think they’re attacking traffic routing infrastructure, because switching my dns server to cloudflare warp helped with disconnects in both games
right… but since Blizz is IT, they have the knowledge to defend this
specifically, they know the source IPs, they get it from battle net
so they filter out everything else… they have to be keeping only the known connections in a firewall and serve the rest at the server, which should be one or two hops deeper
afaik, such attacks should not be reaching the servers
If it was so easy, DDOS attacks wouldn’t be so common and affecting multiple large mmos from multiple massive companies right now. This isn’t some randoms hitting Blizzard’s server, it’s a massive botnet attacking NA infrastructure outside of any single company’s control.
Update: league of legends is being hit too.
