Annihilus 'quest' needs updating

Back in vanilla LoD, duping was prevalent. Everyone knew that if you could get ahold of an SOJ from one of the older patches you could dupe it to no end and the dupes would never disappear. Many years ago I remember a dupe method being found on a friday night. I joined a friends game and there were literally hundreds of SOJs littered on the floor in the rogue encampment. A crazy sight to say the least. Now when the developers went back to work on Monday, the dupe was patched but in those short few days my friend told me he was able to dupe thousands of SOJs.

The devs knew this duping was a problem but the economy had already been saturated. Their solution to this was quite ingenius; they created an item they knew everyone would want. To get this item, all you had to do was sell a metric f-ton of SoJs to the vendor on Battle.net (between 80 and 120), run a 3rd party program to find a ā€˜hot’ IP and some other crazy things that seemed normal to us in 2003.

The reward for all this was the Annihilus small charm. People got their item, the servers purged many of these duped SOJs and the economy recovered, sort of.

Now we have D2R with its QoL improvements and graphics updates and most importantly we have a (mostly) fresh economy (minus the debate of d2jsp gold hoarders from the old days.) Since D2R is running patch 1.14, we should never again have the problem of duped SoJs flooding the economy even if a dupe was somehow discovered.

We are still left with a problem and that is if you want to get an Annihilus in D2R, we are still forced into the ā€˜old’ method of spawning D Clone.

In single player all you have to do is sell a single SOJ to spawn the D Clone and get your Anni. Given the rarity of finding even a single SOJ, I would like to see this system adopted on Battle.net or otherwise adjusted to something more reasonable.

Dclone is optional, high end content.

It doesnt need to be easier to farm, and if you have a bit of patience, I assure you D2R will end up with duped items eventually.

Just become a popular streamer and people will give you all the SOJs you need to spawn him. Ezpz lemon squeezy

you obviously dont know how this works lol. these undetoned comments are stupid…

I haven’t seen a single streamer being just given SoJs to spawn Dclone.

I have, however, seen several streamers spending hours coordinating clone walks with their viewers where people contribute 2-4 sojs each and then they all find games on the correct IP together before spawning him.

Usually this is done privately and then once all contributors are in they will go live with the stream and let their viewers try and find games while they’re selling SoJs.

Your comment is dripping with envy and contempt.

I’ve always found the Anni requirements, absolutely idiotic. 80-120 SOJs, sold to a vender so a single IP can get it… it’s either a cluster cluck of nonsense or one person paying for and grinding the currency to get SOJs… or well, be a streamer that’s popular. I’ll just wait for the prices to drop and get one that way… it’s too much of a mess.

I think they are duping SoJ’s on the Asia server TBH .They are popping Dclones left and right the market is still high on anni values there but the people that are doing it have a TON of annis. From what I have been reading and hearing from friends that play on the Asia server.

You’re reading things that aren’t there. Are you the guy that says ā€œACKTUALLYā€ at a party? You don’t need to answer. We both know you are.

High end content shouldn’t require a third party program and adjusting windows firewall. You should know in game rewards should be limited to within the scope of the game. Right now there are quite a few extra steps in the process. You could spend 5hrs and not find the right IP due to game creation limit as well as games with that IP being limited.

There was a run cancelled last night because just such an issue and only 40-50% of their group managed to find the hot ips. Spending 5hrs sitting around doing absolutely nothing in game sounds like a very entertaining design. Like the OP mentions this entire system was designed around players having hundreds of SOJS stocked up on their single accounts because of duping. Without duping the same system in place makes zero sense.

The system wasn’t designed around indviduals bringing 2-3 sojs into coordinated groups all trying to find a hot ip together, and sometimes being very unsuccessful because the more people in that game IP the harder it becomes to find. This new system also leads to scams which happened last night. People stealing legitimate sojs from the group when a streamer tried to refund after the dwalk was cancelled.

It does need to be reworked. Here was my experience getting a Anni. I play hardcore no one on hardcore orginizes for dclone walks its mostly softcore. I had to then trade for 2x Softcore SOJS. After hours of DMing people I found a closed group and got an invite to a ā€œdclone walkā€. With all of the server issues they want to walk on Asian servers. As an American player you have to get in the same IP pool as EU players for this to work I have to use a VPN to connect to a EU location. If you dont use a VPN your address pool will not match the others because America uses google as a middle man to connect to the game server. Once a IP is decided you then have to hunt for it ( you get about an hour to find the IP) If you dont find it in that time your SOL or you can find it and your game crashes or disconnects because your using a vpn then routing to china. Its just a pain.

With that being said yes I have gotten a Anni it took about 10 hours of my time talking to people and setting up an researching what I needed to do. I rather have it be a item that drops from UBER trist at a lower drop rate like they do on D2 mods.

Whatever you say, princess.

I absolutely agree with OP. It has to be random event in random game w/o any sales to vendors.

Aww did I hurt your feelings cause you didn’t understand it was a joke and now you have to assert your ā€œmanlinessā€ by calling me a girl? It’ll be alright, boo boo.

The system needs to be updated for 2021.

I’ve been a part of two walks so far. People have to use third party tools to see their connected IP, and also use firewall rules to force themselves to get client errors if they are connecting to a cold IP block.

The way it’s implemented now essentially makes us try our hardest to circumvent any load balancing Blizzard is doing and pile everyone onto a single game server. We need a new way to trigger this event. It’s frankly insane it still works like this.

back in the old days, they did regular sweeps for dupes. I didn’t dupe, but needless to say when you traded for a SoJ odds are it was duped. So after a dupe sweep, i would frequenly log in to see the majority of my SoJs i had traded for were gone. never understood how that ā€œx SoJ have been soldā€ messages worked, i would see them occasionally even when i was only person in game. And i would see the dclone spawn in games when i was alone and not selling any SoJs, seemed to just randomly pop into a currently live game somewhere, not necessarily in the one selling SoJs (and at random numbers sold too)

Sounds like an awesome experience

I can do this all day cupcake.

Also, who’s reading things that aren’t there now??? Kappa

did you not see the stream of mrllamanc where he was asking viewers to give him gold so he could gamble and get SOJs?
lol this is happening for sure

I can’t. I have a job to go to. Later, gator.

People should go look at the D2mods(pd2 path of diablo) Dclone fight. Its almost like a wow boss fight with mechanics its a cool idea and tests the strength of your character. Im not saying it should be exactly like that but I wouldnt be upset if it did.
