Andariel Quest Bug is back

Or more like it was never actualy fixed. For those who dont know what used to be Andariel Q bug, it was situation where If you talked to people in town and progressed to ACT 2 in same game where you for the first time ever killed Andariel on quest, you had her quest bugged forever.

Meaning that she was dropping Quest drop every single game with:

  • Increased Chance to drop Uniq items
  • Not dropping Junk (keys, arrows, potions, gold…)

If you left game in ACT I after killing her, it resulted in not having Quest drop bug. Forever. You basicly had to create new character to have her quest bugged with right process again.

Ok thats for the History lesson and now we are back from ancient times to 2022. What blizzard did with this issue?

They didnt fix the bug. I dont know what exactly is said in patch notes but if they by any chance said that bug was fixed, its not true. They avoided dealing with a bug by Andariel going to Quest drop line even when you didnt kill her on quest or if you killed her without q bug. From point of player playing pre 2.5 was everything fine.

Then came terror zones. Blizzard introduced two things improving loot from bosses based on their levels. Treasure class increase so they could drop more elite items and level increase so they have actualy higher level to even drop them as uniques and sets do require certain item level or so called q lvl to drop.

This actualy resulted in kind of hilarious situation, because now you actualy dont want to quest bug Andariel. Why? Because if you do that and she is terrorized, you wont get that sweet super high Treacure class loot with possible elite items. You will get her normal Quest drop instead. Quite limited in what she can drop. And you cant do nothing about it. Only solution is to create new character and dont do Quest bug, because her bugged q drop is practialy used instead of Terror drop.

How? Its simple. For the first time you go finish Andariel Quest, Kill her and instantly leave the game, do not go to town, do not talk to ny NPCs and most importantly do not go to ACT 2 by talking to Warriv! Then make new game and you can progress to ACT II. You failed the Q bug. Your Andariel kills will still have Q drops tho and your Terrorized Andariel kills will be fully upgraded based on her level in terror zone so she can drop most elite items.

Here is the actual evidence from my Online test. Andariel normal is limited to TC 12 items. Terrorized Andariel Normal is going up to TC 51. I have chosen Normal Andariel as there is huge gap in Treasure class which she can drop. In video you can see me farming her with Barbarian and Sorceress. Sorceress didnt have Q bug and left game after i killed Andariel for the first time for quest. Barbarian done Quest when he killed her for the first time. You can see higher TC items pretty much every single drop when I kill her with sorceress while Barbarian drops are still low Treasure class items.

If anyone will try to argue that I didnt make enough runs, chance to have these results, Andy dropping only max TC 12 when she could TC 51 for the 15 runs in row, would be just incredibly low. Not to mention that I have this confirmed from other two sources who were testing it.

Btw big thanks to Pavke and Aedemphjia who also did tests and notified me about this in the first place. And I believe everyone in player base deserve to know abotut his bug.

Nice writeup, this is what I was talking about when I posted in your Terror Zone guide the other day. Hopefully it gets fixed, have you posted this in the bug report forums?

You don’t have to go to Act 2, merely talking to Warriv is sufficient to bug Andy. I tested this the other day by killing Andy for the first time, talking to Warriv (not going to A2), then exiting. I ran her 20 times and got no junk drops or magic items in that time, everything was rare+ (magic items were failed sets with 2x durability).

Edit for clarity: I did the testing in original D2.

You wont notice q bug on junk/quality of items. You will notice only on TC difference non terrorized vs terrorized andy.

Oh yeah no I didn’t mean in reference to TZ TCs specifically, I just meant in regards to the quest bug method. Most sources say you have to go to Act 2 in addition to talking to Warriv, but that’s not the case.

You could be right, thats why I said best is to instanlty leave game. In old times when i was quest bugging her I think actualy going to act 2 in that same game was what made the difference. But its many year old memories

I think they ought to just find the happy medium between quest drops and non-quest drops for ALL bosses and just set it there permanently.

Its funny tho. 2 out of 5 Bosses have broken drops in terror zones lol.

They don’t read those forums, so many bugs have been reported there and they are just ignored and not fixed

Yeah i got zero responsese on multiple topics so i will not bother.

The Andariel Bug has been implemented as a constant in D2R, means u don’t have to do anything like changing acts in the same game to have Andy “bugged” anymore. She is always in her “bugged” state since D2R released.

I explained this in first post. Blizzard didnt fix the bug, they also didnt implement bug as constant in D2R. What they did was that they changed link from her nonq drop to quest drop. Bug is still present and existing. You can have bug or dont, depends how you progressed first time you killed andy.

Actualy thats what you must not do if you ever want to see her upgraded Terror zone loot. If you quest bug her on your char, you wont get TZ loot.

No she isnt. They didnt fix the bug.

Ah, ok, I was flying over your OP too fast. So you now can NOT bug her for TZ-Drops, got it. I guess in that case they never removed the coding error that made the bug possible in the first place, but just copied the loot table of quest-Andy to non-q-Andy to make it permanent 1 year ago.

OK so - they didn’t fix the bug but made a change that effectively made people think it was fixed? Ie. Pre-Terror Zones in D2R it didn’t matter whether you made the steps to bug her or not because it “seemed” fixed but now that TZ are here the difference is visible? Do I understand it correctly?

Perfectly.

Ah, damn - I removed my post because I reread your initial one and found out that it was just about exactly what you wrote

Thanks for the info!

Basicly if you made the andy bug, you will get benefit only from her higher monster level so she can drop stuff from her Treasure class TC69 but with high level she could not before. Like Arachnid Mesh for example. (in Terror zone). As Arach has low TC but require monster level 87 to drop.

Kinda sucks for those who knew about the bug and did it automatically, those who just kept playing after killing her (idk what are other people’s habits but I usually tp and go further).

Those who thought that Blizzard made her “permabugged” and tried it to see for themselves by quitting after the kill are in luck.

it’s just rng, you need to have more runs.

No its not just RNG lol. Quest bug is doing that. Not only its obvious in test where chance to achieving what I did would be freaking low, but its also confirmed by multiple other people. Its confirmed Offline also where I completely removed RNG out of question with forcing her to have only rune quest drop. With simulation of terror zone, she still kept dropping runes from q drop line.

This topic if not about “IF”, this is reality.

One of my friends did really nice video about this issue so I would like to post it here as additonal info:

Keep in mind guys that this will affect your offline characters also if they will release terror zones into Offline mode next season without actualy properly fixing the bug.
