Greetings ur penpal opal here, so theres been a pattern of behavior where the weapon in question would behave like Larzuk and roll the max number of sockets. The example being white/grey items.
6 Items:
2x Eth Partizan. Rolled 5 (1-5)
1x Eth Warpike. Rolled 6 (1-6)
2x Eth Thresh. Rolled 5 (1-5)
1x Eth Gr8 Poleaxe. Rolled 6 (1-6)
Probability wise this is just insane if it truly rolls between 1-5 or 1-6 sockets. I’ve wondered if u guys encountered this as well. Cheers, get sunlight.
Unless we can constantly reproduce this “glitch” we have to chuck it up to RNG.
This is normal. To quote the Arreat Summit:
The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-6 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there’s a 5/6 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/6 chance of getting 1 socket.
Heh. You’ve no idea how many Grand Matron Bows this has fouled up when I wanted four sockets but got five instead. Or the other end of the spectrum where I get one socket and just have to go “lulz” and wish I had a drink to wash away the inner rage.
Ok thx for the confirm that its still working as intended. I do now remember being in a chaos run and a Eth CA polearm dropped n the guy did in fact roll four soxx, so a glitch? No. I jumped the gun.
Yerp… Definitely working as intended. RNG is a very finicky one.
I’ve had many an occasion where I’d try to get less sockets on an item, just for the recipe to nuke it because it felt like I should be rewarded with max socket rolls that typically don’t come often.
I will say that I never had any luck rolling eth elite Polearms since launch but of course this is completely anecdotal. Although I did manage to roll 4os non eth polearms because they’re very common. Definitely not a bug! Just horrible luck.
