The game isn’t holding name locks, and to fix it you need to spam the ALT key on the keyboard.
This happens when Diablo 2 Resurrected window loses focus by using ALT+TAB or pressing the Windows key.
Any time you minimize D2R and come back, the game behaves as if you’re holding the ALT key and target locks wont hold.
if I understand you correctly, then there is an option in options where you can change that. Then you hit ALT once and the names continue showing until you hit ALT again.
ANd for minimizing, you hit ALT+tab, so what do you expect? It works like prescribed.
I noticed when D2R first came out that it behaved oddly when minimized, but I run windowed mode now and don’t seem to have that issue. I also finally broke down and went from the LoD “press alt to show” method to the “toggle show/hide using alt” method so I can just play with it always shown up if I want to.
But if I understand your post you:
- have the original method where you have to press and hold alt to display item names on the ground.
- Use alt+tab OR windows key to minimize the game, and instead of acting like alt was pressed once (which per #1 would just be a temporary display of item names not a toggle), when you return to D2R, all item names are shown, preventing you from name locking on enemies, and you have to hit alt multiple times to get back to normal?
That does sound like a frustrating issue!
This honestly feels a little familiar possible even from the legacy game, but it’s been so long I can’t really remember.
Long ago I switched show items to the spacebar. Too many times I’d show items (alt) and then take a quick peek at the map (tab) at the same time… %*#!
I tried toggling back when D2:R came out, it didn’t click with me, a 20 years habit is hard to break.
You’re completely misunderstanding the situation. The ALT key being the ALT+TAB and coincidentally the ALT key to show items on the ground have nothing to do with the issue I am describing.
I am not show how to explain it, but when you hold a skill on a monster, like blizzard for example, you can just simply hold your mouse pressed down and blizzard will cast on the monster regardless of where your mouse position is - as long as you still have them clicked.
Now, when “ALT BUG” is present, you hold the click on the monster, but the lock doesn’t stay on the target. If you hold ALT while targeting a monster, it acts as if you’re clicking through them, not on them.
I am not a English major - I cannot articulate over words what we’re experiencing.
