Alas, I no longer have willpower to grind doing item farming

I just deleted D2R after playing it for about a week. I’ve managed to build up a lvl 87 blizz sorc with 250mf, and I had fun getting there. Besides some technical problems, I think the game is really well made. The game graphics team did an amazing job modernizing the looks and feels of Diablo 2 while retaining the vibe of the original game.

When I played Diablo 2 back in 2000s, I happily spent hundreds of hours farming for items. Now I’m approaching my mid 30s as a working professional, I unfortunately don’t have time and energy to do the same. Alas, I knew what I was getting when I bought D2R, but one thing I overlooked was that I have changed after all these years, and I no longer have the same pertinence that I once had as a teenager and as a college student.

I still want to try out many different builds in D2R – infinity light sorc, wind druids, hammerdin, etc. But to get gears required for the builds, I literally have to spend several hundred (probably more like 1000+, realistically) hours of my valuable free time teleporting around just to repeatedly kill the same monsters, which drop magic/rare garbage items (e.g., heavy belt, crown, breast plate) 90% of the time. Is this what I want to do? Absolutely not. Although I’m not asking to change the drop rates of the current game mode, I honestly think that the item farming experience is extremely unrewarding and un-fun in 2021 standard. So yep, I acknowledge D2R is not the right game for me, and I’m going to stop playing it since that’s the right thing to do rather than staying and continuously making complain posts on this forum.

My personal hope is that D2R will later add “Resurrected” mode that players can choose at the time of character creations (just like how “Expansion” mode provides A5 and all the contents on top of the original diablo 2.) The new mode could offer much more generous drop rates such that people who do not have lots of time to grind for items can still find good gears and have fun trying out different endgame builds. I understand it’s very unlikely to happen, but still, I decided to leave this feedback since doing so would yield a better chance of its happening rather than just quitting silently.

For those of you who are still enjoying and loving this game, good luck and have fun! Cheers, and please take care.

Build a cheap uber trist smiter. Selling torches is a quick pathway to high runes.

Normally this is true, but you still have to farm the keys, which is ~30 runs to get all of them.

I tried selling unid torches for 4x3 keys and people just aren’t doing it anymore.

You can trade unid torches for multiple keysets.

yea after you spend dozens to hundreds of hours tele spamming 3 locations in hopes of key drops
although i guess you could trade for a 3x3 and get lucky enough on the first torch to never have to farm keys again with good trading

Are you saying you did not play other games past D2LOD all these past 20 years?

It should not be unlikely, I have proposed the exact same, a new character mode, similar to “pre-expansion” and “expansion”, to give us new content, new act maybe, new maps, new runewords and gear etc.

But right now, we need more skill balancing and linearity, for gear dependent classes at least. This is part of what I hope to see on the PTR/next patch.

You just mean your personal standard in this current year. Absolutely selfish to demand the game changed to your availability. If you don’t have time for this time demanding hobby anymore then that’s life.

It is very reasonable and healthy to stop playing when fun becomes work - I will get to that point as well, insofar as the HRs continue to hide from me

i like that this game makes you work hard and long.

tired of the fortnite-like adhd games for short attention spans.

You need to trade, I wish there was another way but there isn’t, unless you’re playing errday allday for 8h+.

The drop chances of items in this game are a joke, you need to adapt or you’ll burn out

I’m starting to hit the wall again myself. I never trade and prefer to find the items/runes myself.

In 20 years I’ve never been able to make any high end runewords like enigma, fortitude, infinity, beast etc.

When I join baalrun games all I see are hammerdins and javazons cutting through enemy packs in milliseconds, while my sorc has to spam frozen orb about 5 times to kill anything.

Why not just play single player and use an editor to give you the items you want? Grind however long you like, and then add the items you wanted.
Cheating in single player offline is fine

I have tip for you. Start the old diablo 2 make a char and edit it in hero editor, add several small charms with huge MF bonus and some tokens of absolutio. Transfer char to D2R and take the charms and tokens with char you are going to play. Then you can basicly enjoy game by playing your build as you like without being forced to use MF eqip first to find stuff. Because you will have MF already with high chance to find stuff but with gear you want to use for your build. Tokens help with more respecs.

You need to learn how to wheel and deal man. The entire game is about learning the market and understanding what is worth something and what isn’t. I bet you sold stuff you thought was worthless but it was actually worth alot. Even a small charm with the right stats will be worth runes.

Does anyone gives a famn about you leaving OP? Bye then…

Note that you can clearly edit your characters in offline mode and test out different builds without spending a 1000 hours grinding.

You can al;so comfortably farm keys and trade them for runes / gear, that’s perfectly doable with a few hours play a week.

You don’t see the problem when the game consists of MF’ing the same 3-4 zones, sometimes the same mob, endlessly? I certainly do.

There’s justifiable criticism the game is lacking end-game content.

A fair point and absolutely mature attitude from OP.
While the criticism is fair, still not demanding the game to be tailored to his personal taste and timetable (like so many do on these forums).
Cheers mate!

Another person figuring that they should have everything instantly. Look at the game long term, it’s not like you need anything special to actually “finish” the game (Baal in hell). After that, it’s all about your gear/ spec… and all that takes time. What’s the rush?

Just go single player use Hero Editor and give yourself whatever. To be honest that’s not even remotely fun either though so… :man_shrugging:

You would need to get a near perfect S or P torch. I bought my torches for like an Um rune for everything else
