After servers came back online, my character lost levels

I was playing my hardcore assassin this morning for a couple of hours and gained a couple of levels. Then the server issues happened and while I’m glad I didn’t lose all my characters, all the progress I made before the server issues was erased.

The grind is bad enough without having to grind against emergency rollbacks. I’m assuming that’s just lost time now?

So the hard answer is yes. If you lose progress due to a crash, disconnection or service issue, that progress is typically lost and cannot be recovered. It is always going to be a risk with such unexpected removals from the game you are in. This has been a thing even with the original game it’s just that the original game hasn’t seen any major changes or active service issues that could result progress loss so most player’s haven’t encountered it much in the last decade or so.

The devs are working on service issues to reduce the events that could result in progress loss but it will never likely be a 0% risk. (Please note that even in situations where the data is not actually gone, it cannot be recovered at the support level and would be dealt with by the developers if possible automatically)

So is it safe to log back on now? I didn’t want to touch my account again until I saw some kind of announcement from Blizz.

EDIT: Nevermind, I just logged in and everything seems to be 100% ok. Thank goodness.

I’m sorry, but that’s a really poor and lame excuse for a failure on Blizzard’s end to provide a reliable service. The fact that you guys had known about this with the original version (apparently), and it STILL hasn’t been fixed, shows how Blizzard honestly doesn’t care about what they are producing, we’ll just buy it anyway, right? This has also been happening since day one, with complaints about characters disappearing and characters losing levels, so it’s not just a once off. It’s a consistent bug. Stereotypical attitude towards customers from Blizzard. Disgusting.

PS: I remember playing the original back in 2000. Never once had roll back situations like this. Offline or Online.

And they working on the crashes?
