Act 6 Possible Storyline

Some may wonder where Act 6 would fit in if they did make it for Diablo 2: Resurrected? Diablo Immortal takes place 5 years after the events of Diablo II, and Diablo 3 takes place 20 years after the events of Diablo II. So, as far as lore goes it seems like an Act 6 would have to take place sometime after the Worldstone destruction and up to 5 years leading to the Diablo Immortal storyline. Here is the possible Act 6 storyline based upon the timeline of the Diablo series!

Zayl saves Westmarch from the machinations of Astrogha.[28]

Astrogha

Astrogha was a favoured servant of Diablo (he is also referred to as a pet), summoned into Sanctuary by Lucion to assist with casting a spell on Lilith. Being far more intelligent than his destructive colleague Gulag, Astrogha was a cunning and plotting demon, always scheming and planning in the dark recesses of the Temple of the Triune. He is featured in both The Sin War Trilogy and the Moon of the Spider by Richard A. Knaak.

Appearance

The Sin War

Astrogha appears as a giant, humanoid spider. His lower body is that of a spider, but his torso and head resemble something vaguely human. On his head he has several hand-like limbs, used for pushing prey into his mouth. He also has many smaller spider-spawns made of his essence, called ‘Children’, who act as spies. Astrogha also has the ability to create thick webbing which he uses to constrict prey in. He feeds on human bodies, sucking out their fluids.

Personality

Astrogha is a somewhat reluctant and suspicious ally of Lucion, though he always remains true to his lord, Diablo. Astrogha once plotted to overthrow Lucion, but realizing his master would not back him against Mephisto, Lucion’s father, he backed off. After Lucion’s strange disappearance at the end of the Birthright novel, Astrogha once more planned to take his place as the Primus, but the strange reappearance of the Primus (this time Lilith) made him abandon his plans. After Astrogha finally realized Lilith was now using the guise of the Primus, Astrogha started scheming against her, even taking the form of the Primus himself for a while. After a short showdown with Lilith, which was only a way to gauge her powers, Astrogha fled the Temple, once again opting for scheming in the shadows.

Biography

Moon of the Spider

Appearing once again as a main character of the book, Astrogha remains in an orb called the Moon of the Spider. A prison bound to an unknown dimension, Astrogha was sent there by Vizjerei after his own cult fell. He was then released by a Noble of Westmarch by the name of Aldric Jitan, which Astrogha then tries to lay waste to the capital through his ‘Children’. It was only through the efforts of the Necromancer Zayl and the Noble Salene Nesardo, who is revealed to be a descendant of Astrogha himself, that Astrogha was banished back into the Moon.

my perfect expansion storyline:
Cain wakes up after a horrible nightmare. He dreamed he was killed by a butterfly in a silly plotline. he wipes of the sweat off his forehead and mumbles “thank god, it was just a dream” then he wanders off, redconning diablo 3

If I had to guess, we might finally travel to the Amazons homeland.
Or we could wrap up that one story from D3 they never bother to complete.

It probably wont have anything related to the mobile game… urg…

As far as PezRadar says there will not be an Act 6.

Well, he says, “There is no Act VI.” Could go different ways. Meaning currently he is right. We don’t have an Act 6 right now, but maybe later down the road? If that’s the case it could have been worded, “There is no Act VI currently planned.” If there never is an Act VI planned it would have been worded, “There is never going to be an Act VI.” Just as back in the days of D1 rumors of a Secret Cow Level and the common utterance for fans, “There is no Cow Level.” But, in D2 we had gotten the Secret Cow Level. “There is no Act VI” sounds similar, but only time will tell if it will follow in the footsteps of the Secret Cow Level!

That whole idea is like saying other ideas like loot filters and personal loot will be added just because changes were made when D2R was made. That still doesn’t prove that it will happen. I say it is just too much resources to spend on a remaster of a 20 year old game. A game that can be kept going with free patches instead of a DLC expansion.

Just as D2 started out as only Acts 1-4, and a year later D2: LoD released with an extra Act I believe it could be possible for D2: R to start out as Acts 1-5, and later(not necessarily a year) Act 6, or other extra areas, etc. could be added to the game! D2: R will receive updated patches/content/etc., but for how long is the question. More than likely, though, Ladder seasons will go on for the next 20+ years just as original D2 still does today! Whether they add another Act/areas/etc., or not I will still play this game a long time because D2 is the best!

There is no Act 6 planned but they may finish Act 4.
3 quests, 3 zones before chaos sanctuary.

I don’t think that Act 4 is not finished. It doesn’t have to have six quests like the other acts. Before LOD the lower amount of quests no doubt is there to mark the sense of urgency with which we need to defeat Diablo.

Like he said there is no plans yet to do so. Not that it will never happen and no one is psychic. He was more talking about the slip from “someone” and locked the thread because callouts are forbidden here. It is fine to speculate though. It does not imply no one is considering it. Just that the go ahead to spend money on it was not done yet. The issue I see in funding and balance. They would have to rebalance the entire game. Getting more money from D2r to put into it is hard too and no one wants microtransactions in D2.

Like I said previously, though. What if D2: R follows D2 and D2: LoD? Two separate games so you had to pay for both. D2 Acts 1-4. D2: LoD Act 5. D2: R Acts 1-5. D2: R Expansion Act 6? Two separate games so you have to pay for both. They could go that route for an Act 6. If not, then they could just add extra Quests to Act 4, or extra events to the game through the years like some of the D2 patches added(through portals like all the Ubers, or extra areas to farm/special events/etc.). We do know that D Clone is changing from IP based to a global event!

I do believe that money will be better spent in D4 and maybe even spending some of it in D3’s seasons.

There was actually a lot of cut content from a4 as they were rushing to make the deadline of the original D2 release.

Blizzard North (not the devs who made D3) created Diablo 1, 2 and LoD, there was plans for another expansion and there was work being done on the original Diablo 3 before Blizzard North was scrapped and they moved everything out. Blizzard North kept very detailed notes on how they wanted to progress Diablo 2, the road maps etc, which as far as I am aware were not fully released if im not mistaken? But through various searches and digging through the game files you can find some of what was originally planned:

Diablo’s Soulstone
There exist graphics for Diablo’s soulstone. Some abandoned quest code deep in the executable points to there being actually 6 quests in Act 4, but the code for them doesn’t trigger, and there are only 3 in the final game. It’s been speculated that destroying Diablo’s soulstone may have been a final quest in the game. The hero is shown destroying the soulstone in the final cinematic instead. This item cannot be acquired with a character editor.

https:/ /diablo.fandom.com /wiki/Unused_Bestiary#Act_IV also has a list of unused assets that are in the game.

https:// d2mods.info /forum/viewtopic.php?t=48891 - A VERY good source of modding info dating far back into the world of Diablo 2. Here is where one of the admins at the time over a decade ago found and fixed the “Next Hit Always Miss” bug that is still in the game, that they brushed over with their “fix” in D2R. It wasn’t fixed, they just showed you stuck in the dodge animation now instead of you constantly “whiffing” your animations (https:// d2mods.info /forum/viewtopic.php?t=65392) and (https:// d2mods.info /forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=53570&p=421355& - This is the main one and how to fix it)

Also there were guild halls and arenas for pvp planned and added to the game files which you can still extract and see, I don’t think anyone has successfully managed to make it run yet, but there is a TON of cut content out there from Diablo 2, due to deadlines and the scrapping of Blizzard North. But I believe that Blizzard still has those notes, if I can find them I’ll add more to it.

Edited to add: The original storyline of Aiden the warrior from Diablo 1 did not have him shoving the crystal into his head, it was the decision of Blizzard South to do that and the original creator of Diablo David Brevik was initially against it and disliked the idea immensely, however it did provide a jumping off point for Diablo 2 and if you look at some of the original cinematics, you can see the soulstone being dropped on the ground so how can it be on the ground and in his forehead?

one way a new story can take place without changing too much lore in the past or future. Or a lore agnostic way. When Tyrael shatters the world stone this has an odd effect and shatters reality to create alternate time lines. Hidden in in the Arcane Sanctuary you find another area. In this you can find phasing portals used by original Horizon that because of the spilt now lead to other realities as a side effect. In a reality the prime evils won. There work now to remerge fragments of the world stone found scattered and change the outcome. Can you stop them?
