What would be the implications of Blizzard adding in a feature to be able to play modded versions of Diablo 2 remastered? Assuming there was a method in place to have people still authenticate to battle.net/blizz servers to confirm a legitimate copy is in use & nothing to modify the original game are in place
Would you support modding of the game such as Project Diablo 2 & Path of Diablo if they were given a green card to create their own modded version of the game?
I think it could be one of the only things that might keep diablo alive in the long term, it’d be like outsourcing keeping the game fresh and new but in an open source-like manner that’d ensure top quality updates are consistently rolled out by competent devs
I miss this game guys

Modding is indeed allowed for d2r, just that the mods are limited to single player and basic interface
The issue is that P2D is private server. Its not just mod.
Honestly as they would be under Microsoft, they should implement same model as minecraft has.
You will buy their server and host it for People who want to join and you pay every month for hosting. And you have tools to mod the game.
Great way how to monetize d2r for future and how to provide something part of player base want.

There are lots of mods for D2R. Go to Nexusmods. com /diablo2resurrected/mods/
He wants online Mods like PD2.
The OP doesn’t say mods that can be used in multiplayer on a private server.
He exclusively mention P2D which i beleive is mostly played online.
But anyway, my suggestion would be great for blizzard and for community, honestly not reason why not do that.

If it could be done I would allow for the newest version of TCP/IP that is more secure than the older version.

It would be nice if they gave modders more leash and moved more hardcoded stuff over to softcode as well as allowing the possibility of modded multiplayer.
Ideally that would be through reimplementing TCP/IP or another alternative LAN system, or like Zax suggested something like Minecraft servers could be cool too.

I think this will happen because MS does stuff like this with their games. We gotta wait for them to take over though so it’ll be way down the road
I’d love it to happen sooner rather than later though

Minecraft approach for d2 modding would be a dream come true for me personally

They promised we’d be able to do that but then as soon as all the pre-orders were done filling, they bait and switched and got rid of the modding support.
It’s all about money and missed opportunity because they don’t want private servers to be possible with this game. They don’t want a Project Diablo, they want the money.
The user experience is limited so Activision can potentially milk every potential penny from this, while holding back it’s potential from fan modding. Absolute greed, devoid of all passion for the art.
it’s a good idea for sure, not even joking
only serious people would pay the money for it & they would also be the people with the largest player base supporting them
Just look at the Arma games & Pub G as an example of how far a mod can go, or even the dota maps from WC3 and how that became a standalone game.
A good mod could have the potential to snap up a huge amount of POEs playerbase and other similar style games imo & that would be a win for blizzard having to sell more copies of the game
