Fixed an issue where the Shared Stash could exceed the memory limit, which caused items in the player’s inventory or Stash to be deleted.
“So that was a fricking lie.”
I hero edited my personal stash and inventory full of rare wands with a lot of affixes and staffmods (also socketed with rare jewels with lots of affixes) and also filled my shared stash and alas, items still poofed because the 8 KB save file size limit still exists.
Apparently what they actually changed was a memory overflow with ONLY the temporary ladder → non-ladder transfer tabs that was causing poofing and/or duping.

Get on the stick and fix this issue, Blizzard.

Does anyone have any technical knowledge of this ridonkulousness?

yes, the file format truncates at 8 kb worth of data. the above fix they mentioned was only one of 2 known (and probably several more) issues that cause items to poof (it was also the issue that caused a known public duping method in nonladder). they can’t JUST fix it. storage space is easy. changing the code is easy. refactoring the entire database, over multiple regions, is complex, risky, and time consuming. and as you can see by 2.6, they arent interested in investing a lot of time or manpower into d2r lol.
the only time they couldve reasonable done this fix was before the game officially launched. its too late now. they can fix it for singleplayer without much issue (they would have to have two different saving methods, one for singleplayer, one for online). online, not so much.

For all we know, the file size may not be anything apart of the issue now. Could be with how the coding is between shared stash’s and saving on exiting, maybe certain item id’s are somehow duping from the game itself instead of there own indiviual #'s. (Example lets say 2 items have a starting id of XGG233) (could be a 15 number code who knows) Or end numbers are lining up.
End of the matter, this is prob one of the biggest bugs that needed fixing, and it’s still broken.

but we do know. one can feasibly test it offline, fill up a character with data, exit the game, open teh character file in some reader, and see not all the data is there.

Ya, the data is being lost, but as for WHY its being lost. It may not just be “running low on memory to save” it could be something that’s interfering with how the memory is saving.
Unless we are able to see all the item’s data and how its coded, were all just pulling guess’s what the actual problem is.

thats what im saying. we are able to see the item’s data and how its coded. the original game exists. this issue existed in the original game too. its not a guess. there is empirical proof lol

DarkMaster, thanks for checking on this. Looks like you did a better job than their QA/QC Dept.

Thanks for your efforts. We need to keep adding comments on this to keep it near the top. Hopefully we can get some feedback on this.

All I know is that if this was happening in any other big game the devs would be all over it, no one would stand for it.

I was a victim of poofing crafted rings.
Good to know it isnt still fixed and will proceed carefully around hordes of items. Thanks

Yep, sad but not really surprised …
Nice to know anyway …
So it’s back to crafted amu / belt out of shared stash and on separate chars …

Not surprised, they also thought they fixed the strafe bug in one patch but they never tested it and left it broken until it was finally fixed this patch

Hope to see this hot-fixed in the coming days.

That’s hilarious to think adding more comments will get something fixed. It’s been over 1.5 years since they responded about classic shared stash. It will require too much work just like this one to fix and they don’t care about us, they only care about D4
Seems like absolutely nothing from the patch works.

There’s the scientific method for doing things, making changes, testing the results…
And there is the Blizzard method, which apparently involves throwing the scientific method out of the window.
It’s a shame too. Blizzard used to be synonymous with quality, striving for perfection, sometimes delaying releases because the game wasn’t ready yet. I blame Activision/Bobby Kotick for squeezing every ounce of $ out of Blizzard they could all while keeping them on “operational” life support, which slashed budgets that would have likely been spent on the additional testing to avoid these kinds of problems.
I actually hope the Micro$oft acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through.

I remember those days, it’s a shame Blizzard lost their renowned “polish.”
