500% MF and 0 Magic items from Baal? LOL what?

Title. Killed Hell Baal w/ 500% MF and only got an essence. Never seen this before…

Or diablo dropping a bunch of crappy blues.

I had 205MF when I killed Hell Diablo for the first time, and I literally got one low-level rare and three magic items as the quest drop. Had better items drop from non-quest NM Diablo, lol.

Had nothing drop from nm addy last night with 350 mf not a single thing

MF doesn’t affect if you get drops or not, only the rarity of the items that do drop. And yes, he has a very low chance of not dropping anything.

What do affect the chance of items dropping or not is the player count in the game. I believe if you are at least 3 players he will always drop something.

Did not know that thought mf changed the drop rate as well learn something new every day thx

Lol… Welcome to diablo?
500mf is almost too much.
Have fun farming

I’ve seen a few videos that people say 300 Magic Find is the sweet spot

Drop your MF to ~250 and get killing speed instead.

250 - 300 is ideal, too much MF cause you to get more magic ( blue ) items instead of uniques or sets or rares.

This is false. When an items drop the game first rolls if it is unique, then set, rare, magic etc. Higher MF does not make you get more magic/rares instead of uniques.

What you are referring to is an OLD bug in the OG game which was fixed ages ago.

Magic Find has diminishing returns, which means that every point in MF will be better than the next point. However, more is always better. The reason 200-300% is the “sweet spot” is that the diminishing returns are vastly higher beyond that. While it’s fair to say that one would rather have killing speed, that’s assuming one can trade MF for kill speed. In my case, with my particular gear, I can’t get better kill speed at the moment. I can’t, say, replace a MF ring with an SoJ because I don’t have an SoJ

My MF atm is coming from 3-piece Tal’s (ammy, armor, belt), Oculus, Gheed’s, War Traveler’s, Chance Guards, MF rings, and socketed Ist and PTopazes. I don’t have any +skill or +cold/fire items to replace MF pieces (I’m playing a Blizz Baller). But my kill speed is quite satisfactory, especially since console doesn’t have /players X yet and I’m only playing with one other person.

May i have a source where you have read this ?

On what part? Either way, I can’t post links here. But there are many resources on how magic find works out there. Search around

You can, just add ”space” somewhere like:

h ttps://www.plaaplaaplaa.com

Bcoz as far as i know magic find works exactly as i posted so thats why i asked you to post resources where you read that higer magic find doesn’t cause you get more magic ( blue ) items.

As example if player have 800% MF he/she will get more often magic items than player with 270% MF.

Yes if you have more MF you get more blue, yellow, green, gold(unique) items that is correct. But you don’t get a blue item instead of a unique because of high MF which is what you said.

Here, if we go by the old diablo 2 wiki:

h ttps://diablo2.diablowiki.net/Magic_Find

And a quote from the site:

The game first determines what type of item will be dropped; Magic Find has no effect on this. Once the item is determined, your MF is checked in determining if the item is Unique, Rare, etc. The game rolls for Unique first, then Set, Rare, Magical, and normal. This is why more MF is always better, since it boosts your odds of Unique, Set, and Rare. Since SuperUniques, bosses, and Act Bosses always drop at least magical items, (and have much better odds of dropping higher quality items than normal monsters do) MF there will make a big difference.

If the game rolls a Unique, and there is no Unique of that item type you will get a Rare item with 3x normal durability. If the game rolls a set and there is no set of that item type, you will get a magical item with 3x the normal durability.

A player with 0 mf will often get more magic items and rares vs uniques too. Just because over 200 mf will get you more blues doesnt mean that you’re getting less unique items or that they’re being replaced by blue drops.
