because that is the maximum radius for monsters to work correctly in the d2 lod engine without modification.
because breaks the game, Like I quoted above.
Until they get better solution, they opted to use vignette. Which isn’t exactly the black bars we know. The game has similar thing for it, as light radius by example. That could make at least folks having their interface like inventory tabs and character tab opened while having more available screen for them if done right
Why would they ever of announced Ultra wide knowing all this then? This wouldn’t be new information if anyone took 2 minutes to think it through.
Then FIX the game… without disgusting black bars…
As an owner of an ultra-wide monitor that would be just fine with a 16:9.
Think of High School syndrome. You’re dealing with people who got embaressed year in and year out in PVP and finally think they have a chance.
Yes - you read that right - those you slapped in PVP over the years actually went out and spent hundreds of dollars on an ultra-wide monitor solely to exact their “revenge” / compensate for their shortcomings in other areas.
I use mine primarily for developing work software. D2 is fun - don’t need an unfair advantage unlike others who’s entire life depends on this game
Isn’t the same as black bars and any other fix would require time which they don’t have much until launch, considering several stuff being reported on both alpha and beta.
Keep in mind that vignette are really common in games, d2 already uses it as light radius mechannic. If done properly could kept the 21:9 space but using it for interface not anything visual itself, which most posts asked for, like fog of war and stuff like that. Was elegant solution to temporary address the complaints about black bars.
Isn’t something set in the stone that couldn’t be changed after launch. The vignette solution it’s on par with most fog of war suggestions done in this forum. So at least they’re listening about it. Not sure why the AI can’t behave correctly but you need to consider that the same AI were modified to keep working until 19:9, but for some reason that AI stops working on 21:9, to address that would require several hours to diagnose the behavior and time to address issues related to expanding the screen, like they done on widescreen and 19:9 already. Those changes takes time, which could easily put 2021 outside the launch scope for a feature that could e temporarily addressed with minimal impact on their schedule.
A clear usage of Pareto’s principle, which everybody uses on their daily lives. Doesn’t please everybody but would solve most of the issues, until they have better time to address that and other issues, if needed.
Like post quoted: “We recognize that players have spent a lot of money to assemble their 21:9 hardware setups and seeing black bars may be frustrating for their experience. So, we’ll continue to watch these discussions and explore possible solutions that don’t change how the game is played.”
I would wait to see how they would handle the vignette, until draw any conclusion in that regard. Several games uses that and most of them uses really well.
Oh it’s not about some pvp revenge, that and I STOMPED people with my wind druid in d2 years ago. I bought mine because as I get older I couldn’t care less about competitive stuff. I want immersion and quality. My oled gives me that and black bars are annoying. For me as a player, I get very irritated over small things. A dead pixel would be sent back IMMEDIATELY. I couldn’t stand looking at it every time I play and I would. I HATE being punished for affording nice things because people want to compete in a 20+ year old game. Just fix the issue and let us have our full hardware.
Yea this is false and I stopped reading here.
If you can’t handle the same level playing field as others who don’t have a 21:9 monitor, then you need an advantage and may need to rethink your participation in the D2 world.
I can assure you with absolute certainty – just as “hacks” were sat in Vanilla, a 19:9 - 21:9 advantage will be sat eventually and permanently and therefore your expensive investment for 1 video game will become null, void and useless in D2 long before you pay off the balance.
Does not having a complete advantage over others really bother you that much? I, personally plan to scale back my resolution to 16:9 should the feature become available because I need no such advantage.
16:9 is more than large enough.
it is for you, but if they are changing it anyway from the only aspect ratio that keeps the balance of the game it should be the largest ratio that doesn’t break the game so everyone can use whatever equipment they have to it’s fullest and the game doesn’t become outdated visually in a few years like d2 did initially.
that means 19:9 because thats as big as they can get it to work atm but if they can fix that in the future they should.
If you don’t want that then request 4:3 because that’s what it should be if they are going to artificially handy cap the game as that keeps the balance the same as d2 and lod.
19:9 is not standard, I doubt many people even have ultra-wide monitors. It makes no sense to give a small population of people who have extra desk space or extra money an advantage in both pvp and pvm. I can understand 4:3 not working since monitors that size no longer exist, but 16:9 is the optimal standard and commonly seen size in modern day. People with ultrawide should just have a zoom option so that it stays 16:9 but they can still enjoy utilizing their entire screen.
or people can just utilize their option of using a custom screen resolution to display a 19:9 aspect ratio on a 16:9 and have small bars on top and bottom. seems just as reasonable as forcing other people to have even big bars on the sides.
No it’s not as reasonable because a majority of players don’t own ultra-wide screens.
yeah but it’s less screen real estate lost so more reasonable you just fix your aspect ratio on your screen
It’s also making the game easier, there’s no reason to change the original game this much.
lol going from 12:9 to 16:9 is a larger jump than 16:9 to 19:9 and yet you are complaining about the extra 18ish percent screen space but not the 33percent you are already getting?
the majority of players don’t own graphics cards that can run the game higher than 720p or 1080p should we get rid of any resolution higher than that as well? That way people can’t see a clearer image for things like item drops and have an unfair advantage.
Lol ? How does lower resolution give a disadvantage ? You can’t compare seeing more players / enemies on screen to having a lower resolution…
lower pixel density is lower fidelity it makes it harder to see things.
