if we want to be fair i suppose we should also cap what dpi people can use on a mouse or how fast they can click a keyboard, what about how fast someone’s internet is we should probably cap those all for the most used amounts as well.

Off topic but not really, in most cases 10mbit would suffice. This is just marketing at it’s finest. What’s important is the amount of hops between you and the destination which is just peering your ISP has.
On a note for the topic at hand, yes the black bars can be annoying but it is what it is right now. I don’t see them fixing this for launch just based on complexity required to fix this. Not even sure if they’d invest that much time after launch.
They already had the spell cast range in the alpha that was limited to the 16:9 area. The PvP argument and especially PvM one is laughable. Those kinds of people look for advantages anyways that are the ones arguing against it. How is not having a top end system where you’re getting much higher frame-rate than someone else, and playing a higher resolution (aka 4k/1440p), in addition to a better internet connection not also in consideration for being “fair”.

But to be fair, everyone has their own cup of tea and that’s ok. I’ve suggested so many different times to let people on SP decide if they would like to use their full UW (or other) resolutions.
IMO though PvM MP should at least have a check box if you want to host a game with only 16:9 support, or allow UW.

Ultra wide is a marketing gimmick to sell monitors while real 4k monitors mature. Much like eyefinity setups, lots of games don’t work with non standard (read 16:9) resolutions. I ran 3 monitors with a total resolution of 4800x1200 for a year or so and eventually returned to a single 2560x1600 monitor just for game compatibility.
i bought and use mine for movies because it is the native aspect ratio of them, i do like the feel it gives games though.

i laugh at everyone who thinks PvP is vital. sorry, the game was never designed around it. It was not ever the true intent of this IP. It just happens that it can happen, and it was some what fun to a select part of the community.

It is a 20y old game, say ty they remastered it. Is it too hard to understand that everything over 16:9 breaks the balance of the game for pvp and that everything over 19:9 breaks the game for pvm aswell? Monster attack reaction doesnt happen at a distance higher than the one a 19:9 ratio gives, it is a core game coding limitation that cant be fixed. You are lucky that you can play pvm in 19:9 at the cost of a downgraded game experience of those that enjoy pvp. Dont be so selfish.

Even in the Beta I found myself just playing it in classic mode with black bars on the side, not even noticing it. I really don’t understand why the people with oversized monitors cannot accept that not everybody can or will cater to their niche-hardware.
And 2 black bars are not the end of the world.
