2-Handed Whirlwind Barb needs a buff

Currently, WW is only affected by weapon speed and not by IAS on gear. Most 2H weapons in the game are too slow to get WW to hit anything. Most 2H unique weapons are practically useless because of this.

Which means you have to put Shael into an IK maul just to hit anything at a decent rate.

1H weapons are supposed to be less damage because you have the option to use a shield, which provides block, stats and general mitigation.

You have the option to trade that for 2H, where you lose the mitigation but gain more damage. With the current iteration of the WW IAS system, 2H just isn’t worth it.

Suggestions:

-Reduce WW IAS weapon breakpoint requirement (so other 2h weapons can be viable)

-Allow IAS on gear to affect WW IAS breakpoint.

Also, an increase on WW Attack Rating would be very nice.

2H weapons have huge disadvantages. WW should receive buffs:

  • huge AR buff
  • minor synergy

Would probably also help if they increased the base damage on all 2h weapons.

This must happen if they are to be consistent with the werewolf/bear change.

And IMO it should be enough for the start. No need to make lots of changes in the first season

Yes, for the love of God fix WW and agree with making 2H weapons viable.

Also, WW targeting/bugs/controls needs to be fixed and the damage scaling for early levels needs to be tuned. Currently, at first skill point, WW starts at -50% damage. At 20, it is 102% damage. Change scaling at first skill point to 7% and increase 5% thereafter for every skill point. At 20 points, you will arrive at same 102% damage. This will greatly improve the playthrough at early levels

I really think that WW also needs a damage buff. I mean come on. Sorc players already request a Frozen Orb buff lol. Melee builds are already crippled.
WW not having AR boost is hilarious.

This change alone would open up a lot of weapons to be viable again.

It will also make Zod valuable again as more barbs will want BOTD War Pikes.

WW targeting and all the bugs should be prio no.1 but the rest is also a good idea!

Yes, but there must be a AR% buff, AND the damge should not be +5% but more like +7% per level.

Totally agree. WW should NOT START with -50% damage and scale to like 102%. Your recommendations of starting at 0% and scaling to roughly the same amount would be, as a minimum totally reasonable. Obviously some amount of attack rating buffs would also be nice.

Ultimately, I’d love to see 2H weapons just dealing substantially more damage than their 1h counter parts (in all characters). 2x 1 handed weapons should offer max utility (2x runewords), sword+shield = best defense, and a 2H weapon should offer max damage.

The current problem, is that this setup is just notjust not even remotely possible without nerfing the grief runeword.

Two one-handed weapons give you 2 slots with sources of CB, static, and other effects.
I would argue, that one huge problem is, that WW relies of weapon-IAS only. Many 2H weapons are not that fast.

I do agree with you. I think WW has… a lot of “core” issues with its design (weapon attack speed dominating, attack frame being unclear to most users, etc). I think that they might address these issues later, but would require a deep dive into the skill.

Classic WW and done.

Agreed.

1h should be less damage because you have the option to use a shield for mitigation and block.

You’re supposed to have the option to trade that mitigation for more damage with 2H.

But with the current WW weapon IAS system in place, all 2H’s are practically useless, except a Shael’d IK Maul.

Agree. 2H weapons need a buff.

Classic ww was so op. It took any 2h weapon and made is hit a 4 frame breakpoint(6 hits per sec) for free. That is impossible to balance and was rightfully removed.

And then they left WW in a terrible state in expansion. Not something to be proud of.

Sure, if you compare ww to op skills.

You can compare it to just about any viable end game build and it falls short.

Allowing IAS on gear to affect WW would be a good balance.

That way it’s something you still have to work for to achieve rather than being free.
