Very many questions

I was told to pose my questions on the forums. So.

  1. Why no alcohol? Why go from a company that has, in previous conventions, centered entire events around alcohol, going so far to have Bottle logic craft beer for your games?

  2. Is it true that Blizzard is not in charge of Blizzcon and they hired a 3rd party company to run and plan the entire thing?

  3. When will more information be released? You want us to trust you, pay you all this money, but give us no information in advance. Will refunds be accepted if we opt to not want to go after more information is released but we have tickets?

  4. Why the change from 4 tickets to 2 tickets?

  5. Will there be a Hearthstone Tavern and DMF this year, or will you all be getting rid of that too since there’s no alcohol?

  6. Any idea what makes this backpack different then the other backpacks we’ve gotten the past few Blizzcons? Is that the only item we’ll be getting as attendees?? Previous years we’ve gotten loot boxes and the such.

  7. Can someone explain what a “completely immersive experience” means? Are we talking 3D/4D? Are we talking something like DMF/Hearthstone Tavern?

  8. Will the Blizzard Arcade be back this year?

  9. The hours are listed from 10AM to 7PM. Does that mean there is no closing concert/band this year?

  10. What happened to the Charity Dinner? Why does it seem the Charity Dinner price is the new portal pass?

I’m sure I’ll come up with new ones soon.

I can’t answer all and this isn’t an official answer, since I do not work for Blizzard but I’ll take my best stab at the answers I know.

  1. Blizzard is now an alcohol-free campus. In recent years their parties and the like are dry. That is likely the cause for this change and was likely made in an effort to improve their reputation and break up that “frat boy culture”
  2. My guess is that they are trying to alleviate bots. Internally, even Blizzard employees are only allowed to buy 2 tickets.

Can I get a blue response?

Most of the answers to these questions are going to be “we’ll find out in the days to come”, I hope that helps.

Off the top of my head (don’t take this as set in stone, a lot of your questions are too early to answer).

  1. Reduce drunkenness. I’ve never witnessed it firsthand at Blizzcon, but I can safely bet there have been a few issues. It is sad though. I liked some of the themed drinks they had.

  2. Unknown at this point. But some of the wording kind of hints at that in places. It wouldn’t surprise me though given how Blizzcon has played out in terms of planning. Originally it was all on QA’s shoulders way back when.

  3. The schedule and layout typically aren’t released until ~2 weeks to a month before the con.

  4. Reduce bots and scalping.

  5. The Darkmoon Faire and Tavern have been largely combined as of 2019. But I imagine they’ll be in the same spot as last time.

  6. Unknown. But it will still usually contain additional goodies. 2019 was just the statue, 2017 was a backpack and goodies with an optional upgrade (some pushback on that one), and 2015 had the messenger bag which had a lot in it.

  7. Just means theming and that the convention area will probably be fenced off like the last couple of Blizzcons. 2019 is when they introduced the RFID wristbands that you needed for entry everywhere.

  8. Probably? It’s not that hard for them to set it up.

  9. Unknown, it might just be earlier. For the past few Blizzcons, it’s been less of a single concert with one major band and more split up between some smaller names.

  10. A lot of the more well-known Blizzard members have left. Always awesome to hang with Samwise though.

This is something I really hope Blizzard puts some effort into: we already got a BlizzCon backpack many years ago and while the material was very durable and of quality, it was just a generic, small backpack intended to hold a laptop and thin notebooks with the BlizzCon logo slapped on it. Fingers crossed it’s actually themed or a knapsack or just designed to look different than before.

I too hope that the backpack is something radically different, but I’ll say the old one is certainly not small and can carry a lot. I still use it every day, and it comfortably holds two twelve packs of soda with no problem.

is it possible to upgrade general admission to portal passes?
