Opening Ceremony Seating Question

So.

You beat the blizzcon lotto and managed to snag two tickets in a frenzious bloodbath that is the usual blizzcon ticket raid. Yay for epic loot.

Yet, then another lotto occurs for opening ceremony! Both yourself and the person who is using your second ticket want to attend together.

Your number gets drawn in the opening ceremony lotto and you get your spot. The person who was on your second ticket though… that made the trip with you doesnt. No opening for them.

So now one gets to miss, or both of you get to miss.

This seems like a very glaring oversight on this new system for the arena doesnt it?

Similar example, you have an arena that can sit 7500 people out of an estimated ~40000 tickets that will probably be sold.

Say you have 25% of those 7500 folks that got lucky enough to get their ticket chosen to get a seat but their friends/family/guild/group did not get chosen, so you decide to leave your seat empty and go watch it in another hall.

Then another 25% of those 7500 folks just decide they don’t want to wake up early and sit in the security line, oversleep, get breakfast etc etc.

You now have a half empty arena for the opening ceremony.

Thats whats confusing to me. Will the place for the opening be for each ticket or per transaction, so if you bought both tickets, could that mean that both get a place?

Having both tickets sitting together would be the most reasonable. Still, I can think in too many situations where this procedure would split groups.

Honestly, I’m still glad they will select in advance who gets to enter the arena. It would be unfair if seats ended up being occupied only by most aggresive people (in regards of advancing through a crowd) and those who have a friend inside keeping a seat for them (portal pass or press).

Still, I hope they do it well.

Yeah, same. This is gonna be my first blizzcon after 13 years of playing WoW, so im super excited.

Are there published details on how this process is going to work, and when we’ll find out if we have a seat? It’s my first BlizzCon in person. I don’t think I realized that you weren’t guaranteed a seat at the opening ceremony, even with a Portal Pass. :frowning:

This is probably the part of the in-person experience I was looking forward to most. I’m gonna be so bummed if I can’t be in that arena.

If you go to the official site, and scroll down to the BlizzCon Arena section, you’ll see the official information: https://blizzcon.com/en-us/in-person

Opening Ceremony

While the Opening Ceremony will be available to watch on screens in every hall,
the ceremony itself will take place in its entirety in the BlizzCon® Arena.
Due to limited seating, a random-draw system will be used to distribute
tickets in advance for a seat to view the Opening Ceremony in the arena
- all ticket holders are opted in as default, additional details to come.

Hopefully we hear something soon regarding this.
