Where are the data folder for Diablo 2?

I have just started playing D2 LOD again and I am finding a lot of changes like I am no longer able to make rune words, after doing some research you need to be online ladder in order to use them now. But I digress. After DLing and installing D2 with LOD I look where I had set the install which I put in the D drive cause I have no more room on my C drive. I noticed that there is no save folder nor a data folder. Where are they? How do I get to them if needed?

Again I am hating the fact you can’t use rune words in single player any more.

Here are two ways you can find the install folder (Windows):
1: Right click your Diablo 2 shortcut (if you have one), select properties. The path to the game installation will be in the “Start in” field.

2: You can also see the install path using Regedit:
HKEY_Current_User\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II\
You’ll find the games install path in the “InstallPath” registry entry.

The saves are not stored in the game install path, but rather in your user profile:
C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\Diablo II\
charname.d2s and charname.key are the ones you really need. The charname.ma# files are not essential, as they contain the explored map data for each of the acts on the last difficulty played.

As far as the runewords not working, it’s likely because you were not using the correct runes, the runes weren’t in the correct order or you were not using the correct base item for the runeword. There are also runewords that only work on closed Battle.net ladder servers. For example, the runeword Spirit only works on closed Battle.net ladder, it will not work on open Battle.net or in single player.
You can see all available runewords listed on The Arreat Summit.
