Note: MVPs are other players, not Blizzard staff. MVPs do not speak for, or represent Blizzard.

Threats against other players are absolutely against the EULA and all policies.

Real life threats are handled two ways:

  1. If you feel your life is in danger you contact your law enforcement agency/s. They will need you to fill out a report so you may want to provide them with the documentation you have collected. That might be game name, links, screenshots, Battletag, server, chat channel, date, time, nature of offense, etc. Blizzard will respond to any valid law enforcement request for investigative information. Depending on the law enforcement you contact, how to do that will vary. Check their website or call them to ask how to initiate a complaint.
  2. On the Blizzard websites/games you have several tools
  • Right click report on any line of text to report that to Blizzard. That captures the account data and chat logs. It also temp ignores the person for that game session.
  • On the forums there is an option to flag a post as a real life threat should someone be a threat to you or themselves.
  • There is an option to report urgent life threatening in-game issues as well via the Ticket system. It is a bit clunky, but you would go to Support > Contact Support > World of Warcraft > In-game issue > categorize issue > report player > real life threat.
  • Put a player on Ignore inside any Blizzard game. That prevents them from contacting you in any way on that character and prevents being grouped with them… Battlenet as an application only allows people you approve to add you as a friend and message you. You can decline and block and suspicious requests and they can’t bother you again. If someone is already on your friends list, you would report the chat using the tools, then remove them as a friend and block them.

Blizzard will not tell you the outcome of an account action against someone else. If the game rules are violated on Blizzard’s platform they do take action. However, keep in mind that Blizzard is not going to be interested in being used as a political weapon. Your real life status as a public figure would have no bearing on rule enforcement. We are all equal players subject to the same rules and policies.

Here is a good post about how to handle Ongoing Harassment in WoW. It applies to most other Blizzard games as well. They have similar tools to report and block as well as ticket options on the website.
