Warcraft I & II Remastered OpenGL Error

The games weren’t launching at all, but after the new update they do launch into a black screen with an error message telling me ‘Failed to initialize OpenGL 4.6. Please check that you are using the latest graphics drivers.’

My GPU is from 2019, and the rest of my PC parts are up to date as well. My drivers are up to date. Is this a me issue or is Blizzard still having issues?

Edit: I use an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT so Intel and Nividia fixes will NOT work.

Same issue here. I’ve got a GeForce GTX 1060 and I triple checked my driver updates.

Tried a few local fixes, no luck. Seems like it’s not a me issue.

Same here. It’s a mess and the new Blizzard quality assurance. Has anyone tried to start the game at Blizzard before the rollout? Ridiculous!

I’m hitting the same error. I just updated my drivers (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M) with no change.

Same error here. I’ve just updated the drivers and still got the error… any solutions?

Same problem here. Tried to update everything and nothing changes.

Same problem here. Updated drivers. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650.

Guys!!! Found a solution on reddit. Manual update with this. (forum wont let me link, but google search “Failed to initialize OpenGL 4.6.” and one of the first post was on reddit, I used the gfx_win_101.3790_101.2114.exe then restart pc)

It will… if you convert the link to “preformatted text”… highlight the entire link and click on the </> button (button #6) on the formatting bar at the top of the composition window.

In any case… I think this is the page you were referring to:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19344/intel-graphics-windows-dch-drivers.html?product=134871

(that page is over 2 years old ???)

Found a fix. Apparently Warcraft is trying to launch with the integrated graphics card.

You can change that on the Nvidia control panel - 3D config - and you can change it globally (high performance NVIDIA processor) or change it only for W I and W II.

Just add the games .exe and select the high performance NVIDIA processor

I do not have Nividia, I have AMD. Also, the Intel download did not work.

Same issue … with AMD 6900… lastest driver… how does this pass the QA ?!

Thank you. Changing the NVIDIA to high performance worked! Spent all night trying to find a solution and finally can play!

Same issue. Ryzen 7700 & 6700xt.

Double that thank you. This worked for me too.

i have Ryzen 5800x and RTX 3080 and nothing worked, at least those games don’t work in fullscreen mode only in windowed, by default warcraft 1&2 remastered start in full screen mode so we got the black screen issue , u have to start game in 640-480 resolution , go to settings and change to windowed mode , go to YourDrive\ BattleNet\Warcraft I Remastered\x86 → Right click on Warcraft.exe → Properties->Compatibility and choose Run in 640-480 screen resolution → click apply , then game will lunch in 640p and u can choose windowed mode, after u did so go back to YourDrive\ BattleNet\Warcraft I Remastered\x86 and remove V from Run in 640*480 screen resolution , and start game normally in windowed mode , same works for Warcraft 2 , enjoy

I found the solution. The latest AMD drivers are borked, and do not work with OpenGL for whatever reason. I had to revert to an older driver from a year ago, and that fixed it.

Same problem for Parallels on Mac with M3 chip. Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM)

Intel(R) HD Graphic 4600, Intel® Core™ i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz, even downloaded the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant to help me make sure drivers were up to date and still no go. Drivers are up to date (from 2020) but still get Open GL error and no glory to play.

Hello, I have a laptop with very basic integrated graphics, an Intel Celeron 1.6 processor, I get this same error.
