As stated, VirusTotal detects multiple malware in the Battle.net app installer.
Steps to reproduce:
- Download Battle.net app
- Upload to VirusTotal
- VirusTotal will scan, give results
These are the detections it found:
VirusTotal string: 002f33fee7b8a159058368b7e93e492931c4ca72e90660bdb2691bcd62fedd3c
Bkav Pro
W32.AIDetectMalware
Jiangmin
Trojan.PSW.Lumma.ej
VBA32
TrojanPSW.Vidar
Is it safe to install the Battle.net app or has it been compromised? Thanks, just thought I would give an FYI to the devs.
False positive, most likely.
Ensure you’re running the latest version of VirusTotal.
VirusTotal isn’t an app you download and install, at least not that I’m aware. It’s UI is solely web based and it’s up to them to update things.
Confirming that it still seems to detect these virus in Battle.net after scanning:
Jiangmin
Trojan.PSW.Lumma.ej
Webroot
W32.Malware.gen
VBA32
TrojanPSW.Vidar
This is unlikely false positive.
Let me tell you something :
Virustotal are testing with highest engine possible of many Antivirus companies
So less than 5 warnings, you can stay calm
In worst scenario, analyze your file with others services
You can also run the file on virtual machine online if you really needs to stay reassured, like with the tool tria.ge
If you are paranoid, never trust Windows Defender, it’s extremely bad to protect you.
Use a serious product, like Eset Nod32 Antivirus for example, very much used on company and very light on ressources.
