I tried to buy the Diablo 4 Ultimate Edition and it claimed that i had to buy the deluxe edition first. I tried several times to buy just the Ultimate Edition (For $89.99 and I didn’t own the game before) but it still would only allow me to purchase the deluxe addition. Now that I have purchased the Deluxe addition, it says that I now have to spend an extra $50 to get the Ultimate Edition, after I’ve spent $69.99 for the deluxe version, What gives? Is this a bait and switch?
You’re confused… and the way the information is presented in the shop does not make it very clear.
“Vessel of Hatred” is an expansion of Diablo IV… much like Reaper of Souls was an expansion for Diablo III. You need to have / purchase the base game before buying the expansion.
Since you don’t own Diablo IV, you need to buy the Diablo IV base game before you can buy the Ultimate Edition of Vessel of Hatred. I suppose you could purchase “Diablo IV - Standard Edition” separately and then buy the Vessel of Hatred - Ultimate Edition… but Blizzard also offers a bundle containing:
- Diablo IV - Standard Edition and
- Vessel of Hatred - Standard Edition
They call that bundle “Diablo IV Expansion Bundle” and that is what you likely purchased… and not the Vessel of Hatred - Deluxe Edition.
That’s the extra cost for upgrading from Vessel of Hatred - Standard Edition to Vessel of Hatred - Ultimate Edition.
As I said above… it’s all complicated (Blizzard’s marketing ploys normally are) and they leave you feeling like you weren’t told everything before buying. The beautiful part is, however, that if you haven’t played your newly bought Diablo IV Upgrade bundle, you can refund it. You have 2 weeks to cool down and think about it (without playing it). See Blizzard’s Refund policy here: Blizzard Refund Policy - Legal – Blizzard Entertainment.
Best of luck in your games !
