In Overwatch 1, after saving money to buy a PC, I exclusively played quickplay and other non-competitive game modes to ensure my readiness for the ladder. When I committed to comp, all of my placement matches were left and/or thrown and I placed bronze. I just finished my placement’s after carrying my teams and placed bronze 5. I’m a superior player in every respect. I’ve studied the game since 2016. I’ve even dreamed in echo’s kit. Overwatch has become an important part of my life, I’ve spent thousands of hours watching OW on twitch and thousands of dollars on a PC and its peripherals. I understand my place in the ranking system as a keystone- one who always performs but never ranks higher, my success thwarted by the worst players in the game. I could climb with some small amount of team support, but it’s rare in the bottom rank. Unlike OWL as the net containing the upper echelon on the other end of the spectrum in GM, there is no margin in Bronze. I’m trapped in a whirlpool, and there’s no reason. There is a problem with the placement system. Either one so unskilled must not be allowed to play in competitive mode, there must be a removal of reference to prior rank during the ranking process, or game-play must be accounted for instead of a win/loss ratio. I do not need to feel rewarded.
