Suggestion: add the fourth resource from the demo

there was a demo, where there was 4 resources: gold, lumber, oil and ore(not sure about the name). my suggestion is to add an alternate mode that mimics that demo. it was made before oil patches was a thing and gathered oil based on proxymity to the oil. the ore was gathered from rocks. the rocks was retained however.

It was actually a special Alpha version, not the real demo.

i found that demo somewhere and played it. not sure where it is now however. it is likely still sitting on a harddrive somewhere. the video however included information on a third resource in warcraft 1, called stone. that would also be useful to add as an alternative.

It’s funny that War1/War2 wanted to add a Stone resource but renounced, and then Age of Empires in 1997 got Stone resource and is considered (I think?) as the first RTS to add this resource.

Have you ever checked out the new generation mods for Warcraft 2 classic in Combat Edition?

There have been a couple of guys working with new ways to mod war2 classic since 2020.

Base war2 only allows lumber, gold, oil and food but because the limitation this game has from 1995.

In War2 alpha (Or demo as you call it), you could have: lumber, oil, gold, ore (which is basically Stone) but not food in HUD (top area with resources).

The issue with having Ore available was the fact you could not Save-Load in war2Alpha. Again, because a limitation from Memory RAM back then.
You can check it out yourself trying to save-up.

So, this may be the main reason why it was removed so then you only have 3 resources in main war2.

Be that as it may, this feature was still not completely skipped. Since about 1-2 years already, there is a guy called Ed gorod who make new generation mods for Warcraft 2 classic, where he incorporated this feature to pick rocks with workers, but they gather Gold instead.
