Seeing real name of battletag friends

So I’ve got battletag friends on my friend list that sometimes are showing by their real name.

Why does this happen?

Greetings Thyx,

What you’re referring to is Real ID when adding someone with their email address this will request that you want to be Real ID friends with them which those settings can be managed here if you’re not wanting to share Real ID with anyone on your friends list.

If you add someone with only their Battletag, it should only show their Battletag unless you request to be Real ID friends with them which is an option when sending the friend request.

Though if you haven’t added them by their email address and haven’t requested to be Real ID friends, could you then provide further information as to how you typically notice this happening? Is it showing their Real ID and then changing back to their Battletag?

I notice it happening because I’ll be chatting to them and suddenly it shows their real name inside parenthesises.

Like if their battle tag is Kandidaten(Actual battletag of someone it shows the real name for), when it happens the name shows like “Kandidaten(John smith)”, obviously John smith being made up but his real name is showing in that place where John smith would be. And then it just disappears randomly again.

I am not real id friends with them, I don’t even have it enabled on my battle.net account under the privacy settings; https://i.imgur.com/m5GCYNq.png

If I right-click them in the friend list, it lists “Upgrade to Real ID friend” as an option to pick from, so we’re clearly not Real ID friends.

Alright,

Thanks for the additional details Thyx. We’ll make sure the Battle.net team takes a look into what might be causing this to happen.

This shouldn’t be an issue. Most of us don’t want our names out there period. Can you guys please work out a way to not dox our irl names!?!?!?!?
