I’m constantly having to repair my game (wow) but nothing i do works to fix it. It constantly just gets half way there and goes Whoops something broke and give it another try. I’ve tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it along with wow and nothing is working i’m also getting an issue in wow where when i try to go near or around silithus from any angle i get a streaming error (I made a post about this around 2 days ago)
Howdy SlightlyStup,
This can often happen due to background programs like security software. Can you try closing all other programs and add the Blizzard app as an exception in your security software?
I’ve tried what you’ve said and I’ve let it through my firewall but its still not working ):
@Zenlaka, I am also having this issue and I’ve already done all the steps recommended on your help pages. I was in the game earlier today, but all of a sudden when I tried to login tonight the “UPDATE” kept running into trouble and it automatically started scanning…but got caught up in that perpetual “Scanning” issue.
Were you able to get out of loop i cant have done everything
no i never managed to
SlightlyStup,
If it wasn’t your firewalls it’s probably other permission conflicts. If you have any third party security/firewalls try temporarily uninstalling them. If it works, their definitions were probably corrupt and reinstalling them usually lets things through.
If it doesn’t, you’d probably want to test on a new admin account.
If you’re still having this problem after that troubleshooting, please create a WinMTR test which catches a disconnection. You want to restart the test every 10-15 minutes until you catch one of these problems. Once you’ve caught one red handed, run the test for about 5 more minutes. This will let us look for problems between your house and our servers which may cause this.
If you have problems with posting it due to a link error, go ahead and copy paste this into your next post, and replace “WinMTR goes here” with your test.

Thats the thing though, I don’t have any third party things
Slightly, I usually have the built in Windows AV disabled. For whatever reason, it was enabled again even though it showed it was disabled. I had to go in and disable it again. As soon as I disabled it again, a large update resumed downloading. I didn’t even realize I was half way through an update. Prior to doing this, I had tried the troubleshooting steps to delete .IDX files and scan and repair. That ended up being a constant loop. Update is still downloading, but I’m out of the loop. I took the time to add an exception to the Windows AV for the COD MW folder from the troubleshooting steps. Hopefully this will prevent the issue in the future.
My firewall has always been on and I’ve never had an issue. AV was always the issue in the past. For some reason, my AV was re-enabled even though it showed disabled on the task bar icon.
Ok update. After about 20 minutes, the update stopped and I got a message that you can’t scan and repair during an update. SOOOOO it’s scanning again. If the game doesn’t update after this, I’ll probably just uninstall and call it quits for the COD franchise. The game has been a pain from day 1.
Another clue. A window popped up and my HD is full. Had about 40GB free before this loop started. Uninstalled the COD Black Ops Beta to free up space. Scanning resumed. Definitely glad I didn’t pre-order Black Ops. I only have 500 GB drive and 3 games installed on it. Now 2. COD takes up over half of my drive. Ridiculous.
Im also having the same exact issue after installing all of retail world of warcraft. I can no longer play any battle.net games. this is so frustrating since I’ve tried every suggested diagnostic.
SlightlyStup,
If none of that worked, we’ll need the winMTR test I requested earlier. Any luck with that?
