Just basic things first: allies tab, mini-map, map default setting for maps, and hotkey editor. Most people won’t buy this game unless this is fixed.
Then please implement SC1 ladder ranking system for Warcraft 2.
I have a lot more, but this is where it needs to start.
Thanks!

I fully second this. Original War2BNE had way more capabilities than are currently available with remastered. I was so excited to dive in to AT LEAST have the original functionality like chat lobby’s, private games, natural ally chat(you have to press ctrl + enter every time). None of that is available unfortunately.

Not gonna have any multiplayer if it’s not on Steam.

I agree. As someone who originally played on Kali and actually logged in to the current War2BNE only to find it dead, I was reallllllly counting on there being a ladder system.
I have been a Warcraft 2 Custom Map Creator since 2008
We need Custom maps to work.
In order for my custom maps to work i need some normal Warcraft 2 settings (refer to the normal game)
The Following options Prior to create the map need to be available like before
- Use Map Settings (unable to ally or un-ally people or AI, Edited HP of units are there or how Warcraft 2 battle.net edtion worked)
- Fixed Order (able to ally or un-ally people Edit HP of units are there or how Warcraft 2 Battle.net edition worked)
- Map Default Resources
(Refer to me to test a map in order to see if it works like the old Warcraft 2)
(The way that Warcraft 2 Bnet Edition settings work is what im asking for, for these custom maps to work)
In Addition, we need to be able to see allies in game and there needs to be a chat log
We also need
-Ranked
- More advanced AI (willing to pay for)
I am happy to see this release, been waiting for over a decade for it

I can’t seem to turn off fog of war in single player now. I thought I saw something about them fixing it in multiplayer but it seems at the cost of being able to turn if off.

I agree, I will not buy the game unless there is ranking system. Please Blizzard, we need ranking system.

Hello. I’m 20+ year professional Warcraft 2 ( Yes literally professional, I’ve made a lot of money) player.
I’m known as Yamon I am one of the most influential and dominant Warcraft 2 players of all time. I’ve taught some of the best known players from ground 0 all the way to top tier player.
I agree with KuroShukun. And many others.
A ladder system and random match making #1 most important.
Why? I’ll explain to the developers.
Because it will fix the problem of having to wait for games. So player activity will pick up and more people will play. Thus more people will purchase the game.
Secondly, Because historically all the back to the 1990s, Warcraft 2 has been a competitive game. Most players that play really enjoy the competitive nature of it. Even though it seems like it’s a really old game almost silly game, to the younger generations, back then it was cutting edge and players loved ladder systems and showing off their rank). It was the first game to have a ladder system. Before Starcraft and before Warcraft 3. So the game seems kind of naked without one.
#2 Allies tab. (Why? This is HUGELY important for in-game decision making. Who you’re ally is, who you are going to attack, who you need to prioritize, what color, what player name, etc. It’s actually game breaking compared to the original game that there’s no ally tab in-game and it’s been making me very frustrated.
#3 Use Map Settings game mode, Fixed Order and Map Default Resources ( so people
can play their beloved custom games). When Warcraft 2 Battle.net Edition was alive and well; over half of the community were custom map players. This is hugely important.
There’s also a bug right now were people are trying to host custom games and it says " Move map to file folder separately" or something like that and the game cancels itself back to lobby. Nobody can play custom games right now.
#4 Chat channels and Whispering like OLD Bnet.
#5 Game replays. Automated game replays like Age of Empires or Starcraft 2.
#6 Game count-down timer when pressing start match. Like every single other RTS.
The developers need to remember this is an RTS game. Without certain things it’s just a flop. It’s missing very vitally important aspects and features that are absolutely basic for an RTS game. And right now it’s far inferior to Battle.net Edition and the feedback from players has been mostly negative from what I’ve seen. I disagree with those people and I think this is great and I’ve been waiting for them to remaster Warcraft 2 for many many years and I’m grateful for it. But a lot of players are Extremely frustrated with these issues. And I can see the game flopping over a couple months and being empty due to these issues. Thus sales that could’ve been huge and sustaining, it will be an empty server simply due to the fact that the remastered version doesn’t hold a candle to the original game which is a crazy thought.
It’s important to remember that Warcraft 2 has maintained a player base since 1995. As opposed to failing over a few months. These fixes could put the game on a sales trajectory of 10+ years of the game being purchased simply due to the fact warcraft 2 is a very good game. But people are very particular and don’t want a downgraded version of a 20+ year old game it doesn’t make sense.
Overall, my opinion is if Blizzard does this relatively short list of fixes, it will be great.
Everyone is addressing the same problems in unison.
F.Y.I.:
I don’t want to seem like I’m just complaining. I’m probably the most grateful person for this remastered edition. My friend bought it for me for my 33rd birthday. I think this is Awesome!!! I’m way happy about the release. I am writing this post so this game doesn’t die. Because I really want it to thrive.

Low effort slop. The battle net edition is superior to this product. Blizzard should be ashamed of themselves. How they release this with limited functionality, when they were touting the legacy of these games at the direct is sickening.

Couldn’t agree more with this post! For a start, I hope Blizzard at least gives us an answer if this is something that we can look forward in the future, or not!
I disagree. I think it just needs some updates. I don’t think they have a lot of resources, manpower etc. for this game. I’m just grateful they took the time to do this. After all these years. For decades we’ve had world of warcraft players and starcraft players being treated like gold, getting absolutely everything they asked for and we have been totally left in the dust. It’s pretty sad. And Warcraft 2 players are the original O.G. Blizzard players. I think since they got bought by Activision, I don’t think Activision cares about player and game legacy, only profit. It’s been that way for far too long and I think this release is a great first step in the right direction to respecting Blizzard’s original fans. Without the first massive Warcraft 2 player-base, there would be no Blizzard as it is today. And honestly I don’t like Starcraft 2, I never did. I don’t like Diablo 3 or 4. I don’t like Overwatch, I don’t like retail WoW. This stuff is for the kids and the birds.
But I think the game as it right now is playable. It’s definitely worth playing. There’s surprisingly a lot of people starting out. There’s very little lag the servers are great. The graphics are really good and the input control quality is flawless. I see this as the start to something great. I’ve already had some great games that were really fun with zero lag and really really tight controls. As far as lag and input response times, this game blows Battle.net Edition out of the water big time.
But I re-iterate. No Allies tab in-game was the most unexpected and silly thing I think I’ve seen and makes my games a lot more difficult to play. And should be the first thing that gets an update along with fixing it so custom maps can be played.
But I’ll definitely be no-lifing this game as it is. It passes the bar. It’s so lag free and so tight that my games are not at all frustrating and very enjoyable.
I’m playing so fast with my APM that I beat Swift in World Domination and I couldn’t believe it. Because when I played the original game all I ever dealt with was lag and slow response times. It made me a much worse player.
And to all of the old players complaining about everything. It’s quite clear Blizzard had no idea we even existed to start with. Give them time to realize that this game is not a waste of time for them.

Hopefully they read the feedback from this thread. I generally agree with what the other players are saying here. I think they should prioritize adding back in the features that were stripped out of the game in the remaster. Things like the allies and message menus missing from the top right in game. Use map settings, map default resources, fixed order settings in the game creation screen. Map sharing in game lobbies.
After they fix the basics, I think they should use Starcraft Remastered as a blueprint. The Starcraft remaster was very well done, and it seems to have satisfied the player base. Hopefully they add all of the Starcraft remaster’s features into the Warcraft 2 remaster.
My wish list of features I would like from the SC remaster for the WC2 remaster:
- A fully functional Bnet with player profiles, ladder, player stats, chat channels, friends list etc…
- Game lobbies that include a map preview and game host where the game host can control the lobby. Map sharing in game lobby. Also all of the original game options should be intact (use map settings, map default resources, fixed order settings).
- Observers and replays
- Custom hotkeys
- Player color selection
The current state of the wc2 remaster is overall inferior to the gog and original release of BNE from a multiplayer perspective. There are many fans who still play this game together daily on unofficial servers. I am sure many of them would be more than happy to move over and embrace the official version if it is shown the same love the Starcraft remaster was given.

Couldn’t agree more with the other posts in this thread. I think reimplementing the features that were already present in the battle.net edition should be the bare minimum. Then this can be the definitive version everyone wants it to be.

Bumping this. Allthough I don’t have much to add that hasn’t already been said.
Old, old Warcraft2 player, some could say a “legend from the past” Or that could also be wishful thinking.
I’m in the same place like all others. Allthough I’ve been taking an extended break from this game. I also wanted a Remastred version of the BNE version, with improvements. And not downgrades.
Saw this as a shot of getting new players to this delightful game
We’re all glad that the product came out. But in it’s current state, it’s of no use.
As it is now, it seems like none in the production team even tried to click the Multiplayer button in the BNE version of the game.
I recently bought Warcraft2 BNE version and found bugs there also.
So I won’t buy this in it’s current state.
I really like to belive that Blizzard will repair and add the asked for options.
But the lack of response makes it feel more and more like a cash & grab.
When I played I was known as Iv@nhoe, same name on Kali and BNE version of the game.

Just like in the multiplayer, in the singleplayer, the Use Map Settings option is absent from custom game menus, most notably Race and Starting Resources, while Random is absent from the Map Tileset menu. This makes it difficult to impossible to properly play some of the most worked-on custom scenarios. Simply put, BNE: 1, Remastered: 0.
The way maps are displayed is also inconvenient. They used to be shown in folders, and mapmakers made use of it to group their scenarios. Also, there is a limit of how many maps can be shown that way… BNE: 2, Remastered: 0.
Along with lacking features discussed across the forum, it gives an impression of a pretty low-effort product made by someone who never played Warcraft 2 and not even tested properly. I still hope I’m wrong.
