After awhile I’m getting pretty tired of this. OW1 had a latency of about 20ms for every single game for years. OW2, I’m lucky to get a 40ms, typical 150ms+ experience and I just came off a game with 250ms.
While I’m aware of the network dashboard in-game to see which IP I’m connected with, this isn’t that helpful except to get the server IP. What I believe is happening is the game is auto connecting me to certain regions of servers which are across the globe.
The IP of the game server (15.185.243.119) I just finished a game had a 247ms latency and the IP is an amazon ec machine in Bahrain Al-manamah Amazon Data Services Bahrain. I’m connected to the Americas region and I’m guessing depending on the time, it connects me to various regions not in the Americas. I’m 20min drive from the irvine offices and when I play games around 7pm or later my latency often times are terrible to really bad.
Not only this but if I join after about 8pm or so, I’m tossed in with mostly asian players. Can’t understand them, it’s very frustrating.
