Dear Sir/Madam,
I have spoken to a handful of game masters and not a single person was able to help me with this very simple problem, moving from one region to another, which I assume has happened to a lot of people in this community.
8 months ago I moved from Europe to the United States and I am trying to purchase gametime + the expansion in the same currency as where I live right now (U.S.A), however, the system at the final checkout is still locked in Euros and not in Dollars as it should be. I have provided evidence that I moved to the United States, but the gamemasters told me that my account is region-locked in my region of origin (Europe). In order to solve this I would have to ‘‘create a new account’’.
I have been playing WoW for about 17 years and I am 30 years old now. I have invested thousands of hours and Euros in this account and it is not transferable to the currency where I moved to, and the only solution is to create a new account? So I just have to throw away all the money and time I invested in this account and create a new one? Meaning, that when I was 13 years old I should have known that it was region-locked to the European battle.net Shop for life, without the option of keeping my progression when moving in the future to a new continent? I mean, it is the year 2025, in-game lost items are recoverable, items can be transferred, but a simple change from my account to the battle.net shop of Europe to the United States shop is impossible, because it is ‘‘region-locked’’? How can the biggest MMORPG in history with such a multinational customer company run with a system in which their customers are bound for life for decisions they made when they were not even an adult. Where was it even displayed back in the days that our accounts were bounded to a specific region, thus not allowing us to change it?
Besides that, I am earning Dollars in the United States and not Euros, so I have the right to purchase products with the currency where I live. It is unfair and feels like a scam that I am paying Dollars for a product in Euros whilst not even living in that region anymore. Currently there is also a 17% negative currency difference from Dollars to Euros, meaning I am also paying way more for the game since I need to earn more dollars to cover these expenses and convert them to Euros.
I hope this information finds you well because it is a very frustrating case.
Kind Regards,
Antonio Giorgetti
