I already own D1, WC1, and WC2. Do I have to buy them again?

Hey Beakersworth,

Yes. In order to play them directly through the Battlenet launcher, they need to be purchased directly from Battlenet.

i honestly think more players need to complain about this.

unable to play it and can’t refund it.

One reply to me is enough, EverTrek1701. Please see my replies to your other posts.

(And pulling over your post from an unrelated thread…)

Complaining won’t produce that end.

It’s not a matter of Bliz just being mean to players. The problem is verification.

WC2BNE’s original CD key is from an old version of Battlenet, meaning that Bliz no longer possess the keygen algorithm that would be able to read the WC2BNE keys. It’s an unfortunate limitation of antiquated technology.

D1 doesn’t have CD keys so there’s no way to register/validate ownership. It’s likely that WC1 doesn’t have CD keys either. (I don’t have an original WC1 CD to check.)

This is some made-up mumbo jumbo right here. Reading a CD key is a matter of understanding the algorithm that was used to create it. Blizzard offers CD key redemption for diablo 2 and LOD.

D1 and WC1/WC2 predate the use of CD keys, IIRC Starcraft was the first game that blizzard used CD keys to prevent piracy.

My guess is that there’s no way to verify purchase of a game from 25+ years ago.

You’re right about Diablo 1. WC2BNE however did come with a CD Key. (I checked my old D1 and WC2BNE hardcopies). I’ll edit my reply above.

As for making things up, unfortunately what I said is true. Being able to read D2 keys (and SC1 when it was required) simply means Bliz still possesses the generation/registration systems for them. The systems that were used for WB2BNE, however, are long gone.

To anyone who sees chayliss’ post above:

The version being sold by Bliz DOES have multiplayer on Battlenet and there IS a Gateway to play on.
