How to get list of characters from Auction Data?

In the previous community API for auction data it would show a list of auctions and who is selling it (a way to get list of characters). This “new” version, the Game Data API, doesn’t show who is selling what. So… what API endpoint can or should we use to get lists of characters (for population realm data)?

Update:

Apparently that is now impossible… is this because Blizzard doesn’t want us to know the realm populations anymore?
