Group Chat not working properly

i used to play on a 1st gen surface book i5 (win10) with a 3.5mm headset with no issues.

recently bought a new hp omen 17 with i7 and rtx3070ti (win11). i tried using the same headset; sound from the game other apps/programs work fine. but when i join group chat, the sound cuts in and out every 1-2 seconds, super choppy. all of my drivers are up to date. i even tried port forwarding 6112 and still no difference. is this a win11 issue?

I am not sure if this is for a specific game or if you are experiencing issues with voice chat in the Blizzard Desktop Application.

This forum is specifically for Community based troubleshooting of the Blizzard Desktop Application itself so if your issue is within a specific game I recommend posting on that game’s specific forums. (Can typically be accessed by selecting the game from the main website and then going to forums.)

I will include some steps here but they are intended to assist with the Blizzard Desktop Voice chat but may or may not help with any specific game issue.

Make sure both the recording and playback devices you are using are set to Default Device in windows. You can check this by:

  1. Right clicking on the sound icon on your taskbar
  2. Selecting Sounds and maximizing the Window.
  3. Scrolling down, selecting More Sound Options.
  4. Choosing recording (and then repeat with playback) devices, selecting the device in the list and pressing the set default button below the list.

Once that is done go through and disable every device except the ones we will be using for testing in the client. Click on the device on the list, then right click. Choose Disable.

We will want to disable any enhancements, exclusive modes and volume reduction settings that might be active.

These options are found under the properties of the affected devices. Select the device, click properties and then switch to the Advanced, Enhancement and Communication tabs to make the necessary changes.

Disable Volume reduction:

  1. Hit Windows key and type sound.
  2. Go to the Sound options.
  3. Click the Communications tab.
  4. For the setting “When Windows detects communications activity”, set it to “Do nothing”.

Check the application specific volume settings both within the game options and in windows options to make sure your microphone or headset is not muted for the Blizzard Desktop Application. You will need to have the app running, tab out, open the volume mixer via the sound icon on your windows taskbar, and scroll to the right through the various volume controls.

Try running your system in selective startup mode: https://battle.net/support/article/200483

Hopefully that does the trick!
