I agree, but if Activision isn’t going to do anything to stop this, we might as well try.
Fix!
As mentioned previously, uninstall Voicemod!! Annoying.
Upon further testing I think you’re right. It seems to be hardware acceleration issues. I wonder if its related to some sort of anti-cheat or patch issue that released last week. Not sure. Wish Activision would acknowledge this as a legitimate/known issue.
Check your GPU and CPU temps pre and post crash. If they rise quickly then dissipate quickly post crash I’m willing to bet its a hardware acceleration issue. Monitor your temps and report back.
Got the same problem since season 5 update.
the reddit post mentioned above, helped once, but since restart it doesn’t work anymore.
I do not even need to play a game or need to be in multiplayer or warzone - just start the warzone launcher within the battlenet app and wait some minutes (10 or so) in the initial screen dialog (starting cold war or warzone or modern warfare) and you will get the same error message - at least it happens for me.
I already did uninstall some apps what could somehow affect hardware, like msi afterburner, dragon control center for MSI GPU, Alienware Control Center, ASrock F-Stream Utility.
Deactivated Nvidia Geforce Overlays.
But all of that did not stop the game crashing after 10 t0 15 minutes.
Fix your sh*t Activision ! Since 3 days this game is unplayable ! I’ll switch to Apex, GG…
Kinda stupid how bad this is basically making it impossible to play the game hope they patch this soon.
Its been five days, couldnt even play single game because of this bug. tried all suggested solutions and nothing worked. Activision PLEASE fix the issue
This is f-ed up man, I have done literally everything. I’ve been pissed to now just sad.
Played so many seasons with no issue till now. Almost giving up. Is this a tactic to waste my pass? So I have to buy coins? Or is Activision just too busy harassing women? Jesus.
Finally I found a work around after spending hours of analyzing. But please don’t get too excited as this might not work for you but maybe it gives you a direction where to look.
First and for most, I am able to reproduce the error!
The root cause in my case is the software I use to control my water cooling system and monitor current system values like pump speed, fan speed, water temp…
I started digging with ProcMon (Sysinternal tools) and found out that at the time the crash occurs I got many entries linking in the registry to the video controller and starting dxdiag.exe for gathering crash info. I got then the feeling that it’s hardware related and step by step I disabled any tools running in the background that are hardware-related, for example:
- RGB lightning control
- HWinfo
- water cooling software (aquasuite)
My specs: AMD Threadripper 3960X, Gigabyte TRX40 AORUS XTREME, MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio 11 GB (driver 471.68)
All the other approaches like reinstall game, reinstall drivers, run as admin, select season 1 operator, etc. did not work.
br
I updated the ASUS apps GameFirst and Armoury Crate. That worked for me. Played all day yesterday
Same here, I can reproduce the error and if I close HWinfo and Aquasuite I can play without problems.
What bothers me is what have they changed in season 5 to be sensitive to that software. Before that I can play without problems with HWinfo and aquasuite opened.
Anti cheat in progress?
So we got an update and they havent fixed a thing
I was pleasantly surprised… this worked for me! I’d actually just added VoiceMod and the uninstall has made the game stable.
I do and also don’t want to try that. :’( That app is fun.
since the new update today, the game crashes, freezes without any fatal error … seems like a progress
edit:
okay I was wrong … just got the error again …
Tx a lot ,worked for me, like everyone else tried almost everything else with no success.
just want to add that you need to fully close GameFirst app not only disable Auto Hight Performance gaming on the settings section, the issue does seem related to an incompatibility with hardware acceleration software, so whatever platform you´re on, best thing to do would be to disable any such software
tx again mate.
Very good find. HWinfo, RTSS, Aquasuite user here as well and shutting all off looks to have prevented errors. For fun decided to activate RTSS and HWinfo after and no errors but it fails to show Stats. Played a game and left it on the “Walking Screen” for about 20 minutes now.
Started Aquasuite after and it’s only been 10 minutes and no error as well so far.
You may be on to something especially about anti-cheat measures.
Update, still no errors after about 30 minutes upon restarting the 3 services above. I’m guessing the game checks services/system upon load-up ?
Glad it works for you as well … if they would just fix the stuff and not put more errors into the game with every season
- Go to the battle.net launcher
- go to the settings and click on modify installation
- uncheck the boxes Campaign, Special Operation and Survival
- confirm and launch the update
Tell me if it works for you
