I’ve been dealing with this issue for about a month now and it’s getting to be worse and worse. Today it literally stopped downloading for a couple minutes, and then picked up at a normal pace again before going right back to less than 50KB/s again. According to my task manager it says that data was being downloaded during the initialization stage at 10-13 MBPS, yet according to the launcher it was downloading it at roughly 100-500 KB/s. Then when it starts downloading the patch it causes my task manager to bog down heavily to the point where the network window doesn’t display or function correctly. Which is also when it starts downloading at less than 50 KB/s.
I have tried reinstalling battle.net, I have made sure all permissions allow for it to download st the fastest speed possible. I have even set the download limit rate to a high number thinking that was the issue, yet nothing has worked. Which leads me to believe there is something with the launcher that is causing the issue over anything on yo end at this point. As all other downloads work fine and download at the proper speeds, and doing internet tests shows that everything is functioning fine. Heck I can even stream things while downloading so I doubt it’s anything related to my internet. I am at a loss at this point z and my only solution has been to literally leave my PC running from 6-9 EST. to try and catch any updates that maybe pushed. While also being very conscious of the time to ensure that I don’t get stuck for an hour or more waiting for an update that should honestly take no longer than 5 minutes to download. Keep me from being able to raid with my team, to say the least it’s become extremely infuriating at this point, and I’m eager to find a solution.

might be because I am not subbed. not letting me beta.
I have two connections, one is DSL, and the other is my hotspot, both throttle then which again makes no sense at all. Heck I even ran a internet speed test during the download and it came back as normal. It didn’t show it being throttled in any manner at all.
I haven’t tried it, but it looks like the Battle.Net App does have a way to limit the upgrading of games to certain hours of the day. See (click on picture to enlarge):
Click on the Battle.Net blue logo in the top left corner of the App and select Settings;
On the Settings panel, select “Downloads” in the left margin and scroll down to the Download limits at the very bottom;
Setup the “Only auto-update games between these hours” option.
That being said… not sure how well that’s going to work. One of the problems, I think, is that you can’t play a game if it’s not up-to-date. So if you want to play WoW at 6:00 PM and there’s an update awaiting download and install… you’re not going to be able to play WoW until that update is installed.
Seems odd that a rep would say just wait longer, this game client can update several times in a week and you’re telling a customer to download an update that’s required to play during off peak hours? AS someone who plays during those hrs.’ I can promise the speeds aren’t any better. I think a discussion needs to be had about what causes the bottleneck and what we can do to make it better.
I mean that’s a very valid point, if they made it to where you could play without the pushed update that would be fine. Yet they consistently push them during peak hours over waiting until the morning or late night to push them. If their going to suggest not updating during peak hours then they either need to address the issue, or push things at non peak times.
Currently I have it set to update in the morning when I typically don’t play due to doing schoolwork and ETC., yet there simply needs to be a better solution. Other than being told “yeah screw you for wanting to play during peak hours due to that being when you raid with your guild. Keep paying us monthly while we do nothing to resolve and issue that is common to a lot of others. Other than constantly knee jerking into it being everyone’s fault but ours.” When there has been a plethora of times their servers or patches have been the issue for why the game malfunctions at times.
Yet that doesn’t solve the issue of you can’t play the game without the update, unless you leave it launched during peak hours. If at any point you need to relaunch or the game crashes, you’ll be immediately forced to update the game.
