Download speed dropping near completion

Lately, whenever I download anything on Battle.net the download speed jumps off a cliff near the end (around the 90% - 95% mark). The download speed up until this point is great, reaching full bandwidth speed, it’s that last stretch that always seems to fail for some reason. Anyone else having the same issue? Any fix?

Hey there,

Periodic slowdowns are not that uncommon, especially near the end when most of the data is downloaded and a lot of it is being actually installed. If it fails at the end however, that usually means some sort of permission issue, security restriction or some sort of data corruption.

Typically near the end when it is installing the last bits of data you will see a popup asking you to provide permission for the app to continue. If you decline this or it doesn’t pop up then the install cannot complete.

Corrupt WMI settings may cause issues as well: Blizzard Support - BLZBNTAGT000008FC

If that doesn’t help I recommend temporarily disabling any firewalls/security programs, retesting the download, then whether successful or not, re-enabling those programs.

If successful then you should be fine though you may need to add exceptions into your firewall/security software so it doesn’t block access to the update agent’s future patch attempts. If not successful then move on to these next steps.

Let’s manually clear the Battlenet Desktop Application and all supporting data from the system. This will not remove existing game clients.

  1. Open file explorer/file manager (Right Click Windows Start)
  2. Navigate to the folder where the desktop application would normally be installed. Delete that folder if it exists (usually program files x86)
  3. Type the following into the address bar (not the search bar): %APPDATA% and press enter.
  4. Delete the Bnet and blizzard folders inside the appdata folder if they exist.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with %PROGRAMDATA% %LOCALAPPDATA% and %TEMP%
  6. Empty the recycle bin.
  7. Now reinstall the app to the C: Drive.

Try running your system in selective startup mode: https://battle.net/support/article/200483

Create a new administrator account: Blizzard Support - Creating a New Administrator Account

Once the account is created, shut down the computer, wait 60 seconds, restart, log into the new profile and try the app/client.

If that doesn’t solve the issue, then I recommend submitting a ticket with an msinfo attached for further investigation. (instructions for collecting that msinfo report will be on the form.)
