This may not be a problem with battle.net but I just wanted some help and insight into network speed so might as well ask here. I have a download speed of ~900Mbps (1Gbps plan) and whenever I download Warzone the download speed is stuck at 10-11 MB/s. I have unticked the limit in Battle.net settings as well. The funny thing is, my friend and I downloaded the game at the same time (literally) and his download speed was at 95 MB/s. I checked and confirmed that he also has 1 GB broadband plan. and then I noticed that it’s the pretty much the same in anything, Epic Games, Steam etc. His download speed is 10x faster than mine. Does anybody know what’s going on?
Hey there!
Our app uses Bytes instead of Bits! A Byte is eight Bits in size, so if an internet provider offers 900 Mbps this would be about 112 Bytes per second total. Keep in mind that this bandwidth is shared between all devices connected to the home network. If there is anything else running on the network that uses data it can slow things down for the download!
Some network equipment will have “Quality of Service” controls which limits bandwidth of downloads to prevent it from causing problems for other connected devices or programs. For example if this feature is disabled and the download uses 100% of the network bandwidth it could cause other online services to fail to work properly.
Some computers also come with preinstalled software form the manufacturer that offers Quality of Service controls. A few examples are:
- Dell Smartbyte
- Alienware Command Center
- Killer Network Manager
- Asus ROG GameFirst
- HP Connection Optimizer
Keep in mind those are just a few examples and that there are many more programs out there that offer these features. Disabling these programs or features would disable the Quality of Service controls which may limit download speeds.
As long as the download still proceeds normally without error it should be fine to ignore the issue as well. These Quality of Service features are often there to help keep the network running smoothly for all devices and users on the network. Though of course it’s all optional so I’ll leave that up to you.
I do hope the info helps. If there’s anything else you might need just let us know!
