Diablo IV "Whoops! prompt when scan and repair 35%

When I scan and repair Diablo IV it stops at 35% and says, “Whoops! Looks like something broke. You can try restarting Battle.net” . Every time in game when I try to progress in the campaign and go in Dusk Holt it says I have corrupted data, crashes, and I should use the scan and repair tool.

I’ve tried everything, I hope there’s maintenance soon or someway Blizz can help me play the game, I’ve reinstalled the game, even tried a youtube that said go to Documents> Diablo IV> LocalPrefs and change Disable Chroma Effect from “0” to “1” (the youtube said it should be this). Another youtube said change LocalPrefs to LocalPrefsbk. I’ve tried combinations of this and set it back to normal because it didn’t help.

Please help!

Hey there,

Without knowing the specific error code, this can be tough to narrow down but the most common causes of issues like this So I will offer some basic troubleshooting to cover the most common causes.

Try doing an extended power cycle on your system. Turn off all devices including the modem. Wait 30 minutes, turn on the modem, wait 5 minutes, turn on any network devices, wait 2 minutes, turn on your computer and try the game.

Try running your system in selective startup mode: https://battle.net/support/article/200483

We need to not only remove all data relating to the Battle.net Desktop Application and affected game client, we need to ensure we have good permissions for reinstall.

  1. Ensure the Desktop Application or setup is not running and open File Explorer (Right click Windows Start Button)
  2. In File Explorer, navigate to the folder where the desktop application would normally be installed. Delete that folder if it exists (usually program files x86)
  3. Type the following into the address bar (not the search bar): %APPDATA% and press enter.
  4. Delete the Bnet and blizzard folders inside the appdata folder if they exist.
  5. Repeat steps 7 and 8 with %PROGRAMDATA% %LOCALAPPDATA% and %TEMP%
  6. Empty the recycle bin.
  7. Create a new administrator account: Blizzard Support - Creating a New Administrator Account
  8. Once the account is created, shut down the computer, wait 60 seconds, restart, log into the new profile.
  9. Now reinstall the app to the C: Drive.

If that doesn’t solve the issue, then I recommend submitting a ticket with an msinfo attached for further investigation. (instructions for collecting that msinfo report will be on the form.)

Thank you for your time Kershew, however after carefully trying what you said and sadly after maintenance, it still gives me this: “Diablo IV detected corrupted data and was unable to automatically repair the damage. Please run scan and repair using the Battle.net Application. It can be found in the options menu of the game.” There’s no error code. I’ve done scan and repair for the 4th time and doesn’t reach more than 35%.

So now instead of starting in town and walking 30 seconds north to Dusk Holt and crashing when trying to enter, it’s crashing before it even logs me into town.

I thought maintenance today would hopefully be the thing that fixed it but now I have no idea when I’ll be able to play again…

At this point I would uninstall and download again fresh. That normally does not need to be done, but in some cases it is the only solution. If you have a backup drive you can copy the fresh download to, save a copy there in case you have to do this again. Do that before even running the game.

Also - always worth running a full malware scan with an updated scanner like malwarebytes and also doing your virus scan with win defender. Sometimes it is not just other software that is wanted that can cause issues, but unwanted stuff too! Never hurts to do that once in a while if you have not already.

Thanks for the suggestion MissCheetah, I’ve reinstalled saved a copy and ran a scan on my windows defender. Everything is fine with my computer its the game. I don’t think anyone knows how to fix this…
