I’m trying to install diablo 2 and i get to the part where you put in the cd key but my key only has 16 characters and it requires 26 …
The fact that you have the digital download installers implies that you have a D2 key tied to your account. I would head to https://account.blizzard.com/games and see if there is a key for D2 there. If so, install with that key.
Otherwise you have to convert your 16 digit to 26 digit keys, which means adding them to your account. Go to https://account.blizzard.com/overview and claim the key there. Then go to the previous link and the key should be there.
Thank you I got it figured out, I installed the game and now that did that I had to update and then I received an error " Patching cannot be completed because the patch archive is corrupt. File name: D2XP_IX86_1xx_114d.mpq If you are unable to correct this problem, please contact Blizzard Tect Support."
Try running the game as admin, then connecting to bnet to update. Or you could download the manual patch file.
My account says I have the keys.

I just purchased both Diable II and LOD upgrade today and am getting exactly the script errors when I download the games.
I just click OK to get past the script errors (3 times) and the game completes download and seems to install ok. When I run the game the first two animations display normally, but the actual game screen is rolling horizontally.
PC details:
Windows 10 (64 bit)
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU
AMD Radeon RX 5700 GPU
16 GB RAM
AOC 27” 1440P Display

You’re getting further along than I have. When the installer “finishes” I get a smallish size window that says “Play Diablo”, exit installer, and uninstall. Clicking on Play Diablo does nothing.

I have figured it out.
Once you clear the script errors:
- Navigate to the folder that the installer was downloaded in
- Select that folder
- Click open
- Continue on with the install process
