They haven’t announced any effort to remaster it. At this point if your mac doesn’t support a 20 year old game, you really can’t expect the developer of the game to ensure it can run on your system.
If they did remaster it, then I would expect it to run on current systems. If not, you are probably out of luck.
Just adding my voice here. This is a classic and definitely one of the big reasons behind Blizzard’s success. There’s no excuse for this issue, it should have been taken care of long ago.
Blizzard is still selling the game as if it works on current machines though except for the Catalina footnote.
Macs newest update Catalina only runs 64bit programs now and the launcher is only 32bit are you planning on updating so your Mac players can enjoy a good ol game of diablo 2?

Blizzard is dragging out time, because diablo 2 remastered (dr2) is in progress, and have been for some time. The current fix takes too long to investigate and fix, why they drag out time until d2r arrives, and then nobody cares about this problem anymore. Thats my theory!

My issue is a bit different. I am still on Mojave, but I experience extreme lag. To the point where the game is not really playable and definitely not enjoyable. Especially in Hardcore mode. I bought D2+LOD using paypal. When I first logged in, I got banned for 2 weeks because I was using a VPN… (no mention of VPN or work network restrictions when buying the game) I asked for a refund through paypal. To my surprise I don’t believe Blizzard even contested it and my refund was issued. I had hoped upgrading my OS would help, but stumbled across this thread. Guess that’s the end of D2 for me. RIP D2+LOD
I have been delaying a catalina upgrade to avoid this issue but I don’t think I can delay much longer
Has anyone had any success running D2 in a VM or any other workaround to use this on mac with Catalina?

I spend some hours with emulators, Wine for OSX (which did not work on Catalina as well in the end) and no success. The only solution for Mac is a native Windows installation using Bootcamp tool - but for those who don’t like to use additional space on Mac’s SSD which is not big enough mostly, may install Windows on the external drive. That’s the only solution for me that will work for sure. But i hope Blizzard guys will update D2. I’m ok to buy D2 again as well since the D2 is a special kind of game, worth every penny…

Works great on VMware Fusion for macOS 
Just installed Windows 7 Pro SP1 (x64) in Fusion, then VMware Tools and set “Adjust for best performance” in Windows System Properties. Also, in D2 launcher shortcut properties, on “Compatibility” tab i chose “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)”. Works like in native environment, i’m surprised since i tried Windows XP and 10 in VMware Fusion - did not work at all or very poor performance.
Also, there’s another alternative: y’all can buy an old laptop in good condition on eBay or Amazon (with Celeron or Intel Core i3) for like 50 bucks and Windows 7 onboard, why not - 100% native environment lol

I hope this message gets the FULL attention of both their customer support and legal departments. At the very least, I hope it encourages Blizzard to post a serious status update with a tentative time line.
PS: I will start by filing a report with the better business bureau in one week if I don’t see an updated response to this thread. I have had enough of the stalling tactics and I am out of patience.
Am I on the latest thread; any news today? It is Aug 30 2020. Basically almost a new year since 2019 Catalina update. It’s a good year to be making games work to take advantage of everyone staying home this year…
