Hello, I’m trying to launch my copy of Diablo2: LoD but I get the common Unhandled Exception: Access_Violation (C0000005) error.
I have downloaded both the base game and the expansion from the official bnet site. I have downloaded both games. I have put my CDkeys during installation, everything worked fine. I launched base Diablo2 game - IT WORKS. The base game works like a charm, without anything done to the game, I can see every cinematic, I can go into the game and kill monster, the framerate is normal etc. If I click on multiplayer, it downloads patch 1.14d and works just fine.
Then I install Lord of Destruction, I provide cdkey, everything alright, but when I try to launch the game I instantly get the access violation error.
I tried to put -w to the shortcut, doesn’t work
Tried to use 3dglide and launch the game with -3dfx in the shortcut- doesn’t work
Tried to log in as a different user to Windows and launch it then - doesn’t work
Tried all the compatibility modes - no luck
Tried to switch the DEP settings for essential Windows programs - doesn’t work
Now, I tried to install ptach 1.14d manually and it fixed the unhandled exception, but now shows Unexpected error with different error code each time.
What is so different in Lord of Destruction that it will not launch at all, whilst the base game works like a charm?
I didn’t have any big issues when I installed Diablo 2 LoD a few years ago…
My CD keys were already redeemed – so I already had the 26-character keys.
I downloaded the game as shown in
and installed them one immediately after the other.
The patch for 1.14D wouldn’t download when I attempted to launch Battle.Net, so I patched my installation manually. There are 2 patches for 1.14D… one if you only have Diablo II, and another one if you have both Diablo II and Diablo II: LoD. Since you have LoD, you only need to run the one for LoD… http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2exp/patches/PC/LODPatch_114d.exe
(note: the Chrome brownser doesn’t like http URLs, so I had to copy it and paste it in a new tab – I don’t know if other browsers are like that — something about security)
Would you mind deleting your current game and going through the installation again – without stopping to try out Diablo II ?
I have reinstalled it like 10 times, but thank you for making me reinstall it that one more time, because this time I actually noticed that my base game is in a different language than the expansion… I then downloaded the correct version and it works! Cheers!
