Hello. In the last few days I have been unable to access my legacy Diablo 2 LOD account on battle net. Not getting to a logon screen. Errors simply states that battle net is down and please try again later. Has something changed? Thank you in advance for the help.
Hello:
Tested just now… was able to launch a non-ladder game on US East and on Europe… no issues.
What gateway are you trying to play on ?
A temporary restriction perhaps ?
Hello. Not specifying a gateway. Just trying US East non ladder. I never get past checking version. Been happening for three days straight now. Very weird.
Hi:
Sounds like a temporary restriction… there is some troubleshooting that you can attempt here:
Thank you for the information. I will have to see about reinstalling D2 LOD; will take some time. I opened a ticket with Blizzard and supplied screen shots and a tracert to US East. The tracert and pathping failed. Not sure what else to try here.
OK – good luck with that.
Hello Boubou. Well I resinstalled D2 LOD, rebooted my internet router and still get stuck at the checking versions when trying to get to US East. I cannot figure this one out. Not sure what happened but really want to fix it; fearful that my accounts are going to age out. Weird thing is that my first connection to Bnet after the reinstallation, got me to the checking versions page and upgraded me to 1.14d as normal. Anything you can think of would be appreciated.
Hi again:
You said that you had opened a ticket with Blizzard Support… did they reply to you ? What did they say ?
I don’t like that the Traceroute and Pathping failed – that is not good… and I’m not very good at reading those. Have you tried a WinMTR instead; see Blizzard Support - Running WinMTR .
Have you tried another server ? US West for example ?
Another trick is to connect to the HotSpot of your cell (the cell needs to be on its own network… 5g or 4g LTE for example) instead of your usual router/modem – equivalent to changing your IP… It won’t consume too much data since you only want to check whether Battle.Net will launch.
Make sure that you don’t have any VPN running and that you’re on a home network… not a business / internet café / hotel network. If you don’t already have an account there, you’ll need to create one… I think it will allow that.

Hello Boubou. Thank you for your reply. I plan on rebooting my cable modem this evening to reset my IP. I get the same result no matter which server I try. I am wondering if my recent Malwarebytes upgrade which provides VPN connectivity may have caused this. I was testing it last week and I attempted to connect to US East with it on. Shortly after that, I lost connectivity and cannot seem to restore it despite having turned the VPN off. I am wondering if Blizzard has blocked my IP totally since I tried that VPN. Thoughts? As far as my ticket, I have not heard anything yet but am hoping to hear something soon. Really appreciate you.
It could be… the way I understand it, the “blocking” is automatic… so yeah, it’s possible.
The restriction period for a VPN is 14 days and Customer Support cannot shorten it or remove it… so 2 weeks from now.
I’d investigate Malwarebytes… see if you can turn off the VPN part. Their Help Center is located at https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us for the US. Perhaps turn off completely MalwareBytes (if that’s possible) ??
Not sure what else I can add… until you know for sure if your account is restricted… and why. Unfortunately, only Blizzard has access to that type of info.
Best of luck with this.
FYI, I am back on D2 LOD. It was the VPN ban as we discussed. Malwarebytes has an on/off selection for the VPN connection so that is easy to manage. I read somewhere that D2R uses the same battle net infrastructure as legacy D2 LOD. I wonder if this VPN ban applies equally to D2R. I have seen an article that says that D2R is not under the VPN ban rules. In any event, thank you for weighing in on my thread. Appreciate you.
I have also read that… but I cannot confirm it since I do not play D2R.
I’m glad you can now play the game – Best of luck !
