Hello, I just bought a copy of Diablo 2, when I try to launch it the game tries to force the normal aspect ratio for 5 seconds, and then crashes without saying anything. I’ve been trying to download the newest patch for the game, hoping that it fixes the launch issue, but for some reason it’s like it doesn’t even exist anymore, and you can’t manually download it. Very upset about this, if anyone can help, you will be my hero
P.S., I have tried running compatibility mode, running as admin, and the Shortcut tab in properties is not there.
The shortcut tab is not there because that icon is not a shortcut. You have to make one from that icon using “Send To” and choose “Desktop (create shortcut)”.
The legacy D2/LOD version does have a patch to download. You’ll find them for both D2 and LOD here: (They are at the bottom in the tiny text for PC/MAC.)
Hey, I’ve actually clicked on the tiny links and they won’t send me to the patch or anything, I’m not sure why. also the shortcut thing made the game work, thank you!
What’s happening is that the links are http links, not https. Google Chrome, and Firefox, don’t want to download the content when you click on them… and certainly won’t run the exe file. Soooo… you need to work around it.
This is how you do it in Google Chrome – there’s probably something similar for Firefox.
Instead of clicking on the link, you do a right-click on it – that will open a contextual menu. My Windows 10 is in French, so the menu is as follows (you probably won’t have the AdBlock item ):
You want to “Copy link address” (or something similar to that)…
Then you want to open a new tab in your browser and paste the link in the address bar, like so:
Then, use Enter to start the download. Once downloaded, the patch exe file will be in your “Downloads” library. Launch the patch exe file by double-clicking on it.
Now launch Diablo II as you normally do.
Here are the 4 links if you can’t copy them… simply copy the right one and paste it in a new browser tab; use Enter to start the download.:
Firstly, it’s a good idea to ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for the game. Check the game’s official website or the documentation that came with it to confirm this.
Regarding the aspect ratio issue, have you tried adjusting the settings within the game itself? Look for any display or graphics options that allow you to change the aspect ratio. Alternatively, you could try running the game in windowed mode to see if that helps.
