I just installed the game last night had it working fine. Today I went into settings while in game and just clicked on the video resolution 800x600 I think was defaulted, as soon as i did i crashed and now i can’t log into a game just an instant crash.
I uninstalled the game three times and it sill does the same thing.
that means that your resolution was saved. i am however unable to find where. you should be able to reduce it by running it in software mode.

go into your registry to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II\VideoConfig and change render from 1 to 0.
i just opened the registry editor found when pressing windows button and search for it. then open HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT/ and in there there is a “RESOLUTION” rightclick and press “modify” and change from 0 to 1
seems to be different for everyone but this worked for me with windows 10, 2021-04-05
