I hit the “Play” button for World of Warcraft Retail, the server selection screen comes up and ALL SERVERS are marked as “Incompatible”.
I close the game, check the Battle.Net App. Everything seems fine. I try again. Same thing.
I close the game again, close the App, reopen it, and try again. Same thing.
I check the blizzard website. It tells me to try and update the game and, if that doesn’t work, to run the repair tool. But on the App, both of those options are grayed out.
So what now? Erase the game and download all the dozens of GB that were perfectly working last night all over again?
So red or incompatible realms means your game client is not properly updated (essentially a minor version mismatch issue)
Normally the Battle.net Desktop App keeps your game client’s up to date but a number of things on the system or network can prevent it from doing so.
Security/firewall programs restricting or blocking access to data or interactions between the app and client.
Corruption with the Blizzard Desktop Application itself.
A network or connection issue interfering with the connection to the patch service.
First, try restarting the system and network. (power it all down including the modem waiting 60 seconds then powering everything back up.) Retest. If the issue persists you can also temporarily disable security or firewall software to check. (again, only temporary to test the issue)
If that doesn’t work we can try replacing the Blizzard app through the following steps:
Open file explorer/file manager (Right Click Windows Start)
Navigate to the folder where the desktop application would normally be installed. Delete that folder if it exists (usually program files x86)
Type the following into the address bar (not the search bar): %APPDATA% and press enter.
Delete the Bnet and blizzard folders inside the appdata folder if they exist.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 with %PROGRAMDATA% %LOCALAPPDATA% and %TEMP%
Empty the recycle bin.
Now reinstall the app to the C: Drive.
That should allow the game to be properly updated to the current version.
If that does not work you can try reinstalling the game though I typically don’t recommend it due to game client size.
For mac it is pretty similar outside of removing and replacing the Blizzard Desktop Application itself. There are slightly different files/folders that need to be cleared. Steps are listed here under the mac tab.
there is a problem. If I want to update in Warzone, it says sorry, something seems to be broken. You can restart Battlenet. I restarted Battlenet and the error was not fixed.
