I regrettably have been away from gaming for some 10 years (GF Aggro!). However, now that I’m back I’ve come across an issue that did not previously exist: Authenticator and Phone Numbers can now only be attached to 1 battle.net account.
Now this would not have been too much of a problem in the existence of another service you once offered; merging battle.net accounts and / or transferring games from one account to another. But that service no longer exists either.
I have 2 Battle.net accounts. Both accounts have game purchases that I would like to protect with my authenticator and phone number. With the restrictions blizzard has decided to apply while I was away, this means I can only protect one account unless I purchase, and maintain an active contract for a 2nd phone. A ridiculous idea.
My suggestion is either:
- Bring back support for multiple accounts to the authenticator.
- Now that Blizzard is part of the Microsoft family, migrate to Microsoft Authenticator so that we can add multiple accounts.
Note: before anybody questions having multiple battle.net accounts, consider that the ability to protect all accounts previously existed, so the decision was not a problem and actually common.
The decision was originally to keep separate friends lists - one account was for FPS games, Overwatch, Warzone, Black Ops, and the other account for the fantasy games of WoW, Starcraft, Warcraft etc. It made things easier for grouping.
One would not expect the availability of service to be downgraded in a world where every other authentication service allows the use of one authenticator tool for multiple accounts.
