Edit: Please see my post below for a workaround that’s been working for me, hopefully it works for you too!
Edit: Workaround stopped working for me, but may still help someone else.
Hi. This started happening to me yesterday. I press play and get a popup telling me my installation is damaged. I then try to update and scan/repair, and both return this error about a third of the way through.
I know the game is actually working, because I did manage to get on last night randomly after trying about 20 times and it played just fine for a few hours, but this morning we’re back to this error.
Unless you are actually releasing constant updates, I can’t see how my client constantly thinking the game needs updates is a problem on my end. It’s clearly a problem with the battle.net app since people have reported constant updates for other games too. Also, it did randomly let me on last night, which tells me there isn’t a problem with permissions or my installation.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the battle.net app and the game and it’s still happening. I have created another administrator log on and used that to no avail. What should I do now? Just say goodbye to Blizzard?

I’m having the same problem.
Mine first came to notice when I was disconnected in mid game and had a toon left floating in the ether in the middle of Korthia. Every time I tried to reconnect I got the same result, a glimpse of a free floating character and then disconnected.
Attempting to rectify that I followed the process as Sean has laid out, including turning off my VPN and other bits of my security system, but to no avail.
The disconnect/character floating in the ether problem I’ve had before trying to take the portal from Bolarus to Darkshore, and nothing I did could solve that problem, but I could play other toons. Eventually, after raising multiple tickets, I ended up have to delete a 110 level character.
Please fix this problem.

I’m having the same problem on warzone. In the middle of a match the game will completely stop. A Directx comes up and tell me to scan the app. I’ve updated my graphics card and nothing uninstalled the game and still the same thing happens.

same here thanks blizz for nothing
So, I’m still having this issue, but there is one workaround which is fairly consistently opening the game for me, so adding it here in case it works for others. I have to do this every time I want to start the game:
- Uninstall battle.net app
- Double click WoW shortcut on my desktop to attempt to open the game
- This will auto-install the battle.net app
- Once it pops up with the list of games to be auto-updated, unclick everything except the game you want to play, including PTRs or anything else
- Usually then my game will update properly and I can then play successfully.
Basically, if your update starts ‘scanning files’ you’ll get the error, you want it to go straight to ‘fetching indices’. Above steps are the only way I’ve gotten it to consistently update without going through the ‘scanning files’ step. If I try to download the battle.net app from my browser, it will still try to scan files, so it’s important to force-install it by trying to play your game directly from desktop.
Hope this helps someone else as well, as this is a frustrating error.
To any support here, the fact that I can workaround this issue by performing the above steps shows that there’s not actually an issue with my permissions or with my games. This issue is on your end and an acknowledgement of that and fix would be appreciated.
I’m having the same problem. And after I uninstalled my WM and tried to reinstall it.BLZBNTAGT00000BB8 shows up again. lol
I just want to play the game, not play with this troubles…
