Black Ops 6 game crash - Error Code 0x887A0005

I’m getting constant and increasingly worsening game crashes since the game update about 4 days ago, currently the games unplayable and I’m at a loss for what to do. I’ve had no problems with playing games prior to the last 4 or so days. SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP ME.

The following happens;

  1. Boot up the game
  2. Get to either the menu, or about 30 seconds into a game
  3. Screen freezes, then flickers black for a second, and receive a DirectX Error message
  4. Error Code 0x887A0005

I’ve gone through various google adventures and conversations with Activision support, which have got me nowhere and I’ve now been told ‘a Senior Dev’ will get back to me - but there is no timeline on this. At a loss for what to do following multiple troubleshooting attempts. I’ve tried the following;

  1. Scan and repair the game
  2. Updated CPU and GPU drivers
  3. Uninstall and reinstall CPU and GPU drivers
  4. Reverted to old drivers
  5. Reverted to old Windows updates
  6. Updated all Windows features
  7. Allowed access through antivirus to Call of Duty and Battle.net files
  8. Changed Call of Duty priority in task manager (to normal and high)
  9. Cleared old caches
  10. Reinstalled the entire game multiple times
  11. Activated and deactivated Windows Game Mode
  12. Booted in administrator mode
  13. Removed RGB apps which apparently have caused other users issues in the past

Am I the only one getting this crash at the moment?

Ive been having this problem for the past few days too, done pretty much every trouble shooting option you have with no fix. Does it happen on certain gamemodes/maps for you?

This forum does not offer support for Call of Duty, or any Activision titles.

Please review the thread pinned at the top of the forum:

Where is the “Me Too” button. I tried downloading and reinstalling Directx 11, adding the -dx11 tot he command line, starting from Steam instead of Battle.net. same result. Looks like we can ask for a refund if all of us have the same Error Code 0x887A0005 and Battle.net can’t get someone from COD to fix it. part of their guarantee when its running rampid throughout the gaming community and its not hardware specific.

Activision is an entirely separate gaming studio these days. It’s like asking Walmart to fix a Sam’s Club problem. Same parent company, completely different stores with their own rules and teams.

I’m still having the issues 8 days on from this whilst trying more stuff that Activision support have sent me. Have you managed to find a fix??? Genuinely think I’m just going to request a refund at this point. I haven’t been able to play for like 3-weeks and I’ve got the itch for a FPS game… Last COD I’ll ever be buying that’s for sure!
