Battle.net stuck at 5% downloading files

I’ve gone through the troubleshoot guide that Blizzard has provide. None of that worked. I’ve tried using hotspot as a VPN. That hasn’t worked. I’ve not had an issue with this computer, until I had to reinstall. Now it won’t work.

I did try on my wife’s laptop and had an identical issue. Any thoughts on how to install battle.net or what to try next?

I have the same problem. I already submitted a ticket. I looked at the log generated by the Battle dot net installer. It looks like it’s something on their end since my attempts to connect to their patch dot battle dot net server to get the files are being refused. Look at your logs, it’ll be under %programdata% (type that in after hitting WIN + R first) You’ll have to navigate to the logs itself - look for the Battle dot net folder first then keep going through each folder and you’ll come to the Logs folder.

The connection is being refused or it can’t resolve the hostname? If it’s the hostname, you can switch DNS. Also, that patch server may ignore requests from VPN-based connections.

No VPN here… It’s not hostname.

I copied & pasted a snippet of what I’m seeing in the logs. I’ve already disabled all firewalls, antiviruses, & etc. Still no joy… I even plugged direct into my computer from modem, nothing. Which is what leads me to believe that it’s something on Blizzard’s end.

I installed the WoW PTR update about 5 minutes ago, which uses that IP and port. I also manually ran connection tests to the hostname and the resolved IP, and both are responding to ping requests, so the server isn’t down.

Do you have that port closed/a firewall blocking that server?

You may want to try another connection, like a mobile hotspot.

Thank you very much for confirming what I have had suspected. I tried getting in touch with my friends who still played Blizzard products, nobody was answering.

I got pissed off enough that I just went and completely reset everything (router, modem, & etc.) to default and turned off my firewall. It works. So now to figure out what’s exactly going on… And why it was doing all that in the first place.

Much appreciated.

Glad we narrowed it down.
